DIY PH Travel#13: Throwback Thursday's Getaway to Carcar's Ramon Rest House

I was looking at my old blog entries from different websites. Yes, I had been writing for different websites and as soon as that site is not monetizing anymore, I don't really keep my articles with them, I take them back and keep them on my online storage for future use.

Which is why, today, I'd like to share to you an old experience but still worth remembering. Tomorrow's Thursday so this will be a great throwback Thursday entry.

Here it goes...

Part of being employed in a BPO company was to receive quarterly budget for outings and getaways. I was once a call center agent and I definitely don't miss it. However, if I would be asked for the thing that I really miss about being a call center agent, I would certainly answer, the travels. It was the best part for me because I can travel to different provinces and places without shelling out huge amount from my pocket, this is because the company itself provides their employees their teambuilding funds.

This was a quarterly budget and it would depend on the team if they'd be using it for a normal dine out at a buffet meal or perhaps select the better option of going out of the office and see the world around them.

So, today, let me share a relaxing team building activity that was organized by my previous team. We went out of town or shall I say out of the city and explored the southern part of Cebu. We want to Carcar city!

Carcar is nice. That is the city's slogan. It's appealing and I if you are not from the said city, you'll not know why that is their motto. Well, actually this is not just a motto but also a marketing stunt by the city mayor. The mayor's last name actually is Nice. So now we know why the city has that slogan.

Anyways, our team had opted a rest house named after the owner, Ramon. The owner has now moved abroad and so the house has been occupied by relatives who served as their caretaker as well. It has its own pool, there's a Karaoke area which is best for Filipinos because we all love to sing. The house has two rooms with double decks and it is facing the beach this was win, having both a pool and to beach at the same time.

However, not all travel stories are good stories and positive reviews of the said place. Because sometimes, no mater how positive I would like to sound, there are things that I just need to be honest about. Let me state these not so good review of the Ramon Rest House:

  • The kitchen was not tidy. There were kitchen items which were not cleaned up when we arrived. We have to clean them ourselves.

  • The comfort rooms' were obviously not maintained. The bowls were really dirty that I didn't want to even pee on it. The faucet was not at all working properly, it was leaking and we still have to store water in a pail.

  • swimming pool didn't have water when we arrive and it took hours before the caretaker wws able to clean and fill it with water, this was even after we verified and informed them that we were on our way.

But then even after everything we still found the beach good. It is better to find or look at the brighter side of the coin. I was glad that we had good time singing our hearts out while eating all of our prepared foodies.

Plus the companionship and camaraderie of the entire team had indeed developed, that was the number one reason that we had that activity.

How To Get There?

From Cebu City, locate South Bus Terminal. There are hundreds of buses which pass by Car Car City from the terminal. Travel time usually takes around an hour from Cebu City depending on the traffic and that will cost you Php 40-60.

Before reaching the main city, ask the driver to drop you at the intersection where there's Tinong's and Park 'n Go bakeshop facing each other.

From there, you can hire a habal-habal and tell them to take you to Quino Store. There's a basketball court next to it which is also just next to Ramon Rest house.

Fees:

Cebu City to Carcar will cost you Php 40-60
Habal-habal will cost you around Php 25-50 depending on your haggling skills

We had the entire place for only Php 4000 which for me is really really affordable specially that they allow at most 20 persons for a 24 hour stay.
