DIY PH Travel#4: Cebu City Tour - Paradise at Terrazas de Flores Botanical Garden Busay Cebu

Once upon a time, a biker was peddling his mountain bike towards the hilly roads of Busay in Cebu City. Grasping for air as the challenging trail was something he can't anymore take, he sat on the road side, felt his sweat dropping into his black leather biker uniform, reached for his water bottle and in an instant noticed these local flowers prettily swaying as the wind bounces off its petals and stems.

You might think that didn't hit him, well you are right. A guy with muscles would somehow disregard that beauty, perhaps appreciate it for awhile but then end up leaving it. That's what he did actually but that was just the first encounter. That instance changed the way he look at local flowers.

From that day on, whenever he would sped his way towards Busay, he would notice these unattended flowers along the roads, some were smiling at him as he make his imaginable waves to these pretties. Some are sad as those who doesn't care carelessly stepped on them, breaking their weak stems. While most are somehow telling him to take them with him to wherever his bike would take him.

Foolish as they may say but his flower encounter changed his perspective about ordinary local ornaments. He finally decided to take all of these pretties with him to a special location native to them as well - Terrazas de Flores in Busay.

Flower Terraces

Philippines' first botanical garden in terraces.

Banaue has rice terraces and Cebu has the country's first flower terraces which is definitely worthy to be part of each local and tourist's destination when visiting Cebu, which explains why this is included in my Cebu City Tour.

My husband and I were both lucky we came to Terrazas de Flores in its opening month. The botanical garden started to opened its doors to the public on 2017, just very new by the way and it has been taking Cebu in a different floral level.

Terrazas de Flores Busay

Terrazas de Flores is a flower garden where local flowers are meticulously arranged on a mountain slope to form flower terraces. The whole idea was conceptualized by a Cebuano father who owns a two-hectare parcel of land in Malubog, Cebu City and developed it into a flower garden where he and his three children could bond.

The garden also has Gazebos like the above where visitors can chill and rest.

For the owner, the creation of the garden was an expression of his love for his children. With a land area of two hectares, the first half developed into what now is Terrazas de Flores Botanical Garden, the owner decided to share his garden to the public for the Filipinos and foreign tourists to experience the beauty and emotion of a true blue Cebuano garden. - Terrazas de Flores Busay

The garden welcomes anyone who has love and respect for wild flowers and those which are native to Cebu while they also incorporate it with other flower species.

They also have daisies, morning glories, yellow Coreopsis, Fijian Fire plant, Angel Wing Begonia, Starclusters and a lot more, to date, Terrazas de Flores Botanical Garden has over one hundred twenty seven species of Cebu’s local flowers.

How to get there?

From downtown Cebu City, your reference point shall be the JY Square Mall in Lahug. There are public jeepneys, taxis and motorcycles which can take you here.

With that, there are another set of motorists (habal-habal) which can then take you from JY Square Mall to Busay. The drivers will charge you around Php 100-250 depending on your haggling skills as well but if it would go beyond that, don't agree with the driver.

Because of these types of drivers, I would just highly recommend that you can book either Angkas or Grab/Uber which gives you the pricing before booking them. No haggling required.

Entrance Fees:

Php 100 per adult
Php 50 per children, those who are 4 years old and below are free of charge
Php 1,500 for those who would like to set up a photoshoot opportunity, that's the price for the first hour and 500php for the next succeeding hours

But if you aren't shooting, your Php 100 can let you enjoy unlimited time inside the garden with free complimentary drink.

Notice that Busay is an uphill town of Cebu and has been developing and becoming well known for tourist attractions in the city since it is just a few minutes ride from downtown Cebu.

If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change.
