One thing about panorama shots - it distorts the image but it is still acceptable.

I am starting to showcase my husband's home - Oslob. Earlier, I had posted a DIY travel PH blog entry for Tumalog Waterfalls and so I am sharing some more thing to check out while in town.

Tourists would think that Oslob may only offer their Tumalog Falls
which looked like a wedding veil when one is looking up from its base or perhaps their Gentle Giants, gigantic whale sharks or what they locally call as "Tuki" which has not only made the town well known but also earned their local government good funds as well as the neighborhood.

But there's more to to the town specially when you visit their main town or "poblacion", I am referring to the Cuartel.

My friends had fun at Cuartel.

An stone engraved information of Cuartel.

Cuartel - is a Spanish term for Barracks. It was built obviously in the Spanish era to serve as a head quarter to house for Spanish soldiers around 1860s. It was unfinished though as the Americans took over. It has been left untouched until recently when the local government tried to fill in some of its destroyed ruins so to retain its beauty. It is quite obvious that some rocks inside the barracks are different compared to the entirety but it doesn't really matter at all.

Cuartel - Perfect for prenup sessions with historical theme. There are also benches like this one at the park next to it.

Situated just right in front of their local Catholic Church, Immaculate Conception and obviously captivating because of the coral rocks used for its construction. Groups of tourists would definitely love to take group pictures with it as a background. Wedding prenuptial sessions have been also held in this area and lot more. Even the locals of Oslob can't help but appreciate this beauty even if they have been seeing it almost every day or week for their Sunday Mass service.

Another ruin just a few walks away from the main cuartel.

Since my husband is a local of Oslob , he had taken me here quite a lot of times but each single time that we pass by here, I would always get a panoramic shot of this structure, these photos had even encouraged us to buy wide lens soon. Fortunately, I still have my mobile phone which can take panorama shots. The photos in this post was taken when we were just passing by and there were not much people around to photobomb so I was able to successfully take a panorama.

The back side of Cuartel.

It has gained a lot of visitors lately and most resorts had been offering this tour to their guests too so when visiting Oslob, don't forget to visit this spot to chill during the afternoon. There are vendors too who are selling snacks and other goodies along the area.

Locals love to also chill here specially during weekends. The shoreline is also being protected as a non-fishing area. There are local bantay-dagat who are watching over for any possible threat to the sanctuary.

How To Get There?

Note: This is the same note from the previous blog: DIY PH Travel#7: Going South - Tumalog Waterfalls in Oslob

From Cebu City, find the South Bus Terminal, there are buses going to southern Cebu in minutes interval. Ceres buses and Sunrays are there which will cost you Php 140-150. However, there are also vans for hire at a separate terminal which is a bit complicated to look for so I highly recommend the buses specially if you are new to Cebu.

One can tell the bus driver or helper to drop you at Oslob's main town. Travel time will take 3-4 hours depending on traffic.

From the main town, head towards the coastal area, there are couple intersections leading to where the local gymnasium and church are located. Once you spot the church, you'll find Cuartel just adjacent to it.

Entrance Fee:

No fee at all for unlimited use. But I am pretty sure you'll get to buy some goodies and perhaps water too from the local vendors so make sure to bring some coins.
