Hi Steemit Friends,
Mid-Autumn Festival is considered the second most important festival of the year in China after Chinese New Year. In my last post, I introduced a unique centuries-old tradition, Fire Dragon Dance to you. After the event, my friend and I walked to the Victory Park, which was lit with different colorful lantern displays in Causeway Bay.
The Mid-Autumun Thematic Lantern Display at Victoria Park is the largest scale lantern exhibition in Hong Kong and it is open to public for free. The event will showcase several festive lanterns, including an exhibition on creative and traditional lanterns crafted by local students and local masters and an exhibition on traditional craftsmanship of lantern making etc.
The Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong—Exhibition on traditional Craftsmanship of Lantern Making /
These lantern displays are created in the shape of the traditional women's wear —cheongsam by a master craftsman, Mr Au Yeung Ping Chi. He has created a series trendy imitation with paper, such as mobile phones, skateboards, electric guitars etc that look very realistic.
As you can see from the pictures below, different colors and patterns are used for the designs for Cheongsam. The style, colors and design trends have undergone many changes over time. They also stand testimony to the fashion history in Hong Kong.
Students Lanterns Display/
Next to the cheongsam lanterns display, there is a student lanterns display. I was amazed by the creativeness of the students who made these lanterns. They look amazing~
Main Lantern Display Area/
There are many different shapes of traditional lanterns display in this area. The design theme varies in different years and the theme of the year is "Enchanted Blossom under the Moon".
There are many great spots for photo-taking at the carnival. Personally, I love this display "Under the Same Starry Sky"the most.
Light Installation -Reunion
This display showcases more than 300 lanterns made by hundreds "community artists" consisting students, elderly, children with special needs and artists to symbolic joyous reunion, blessing and happiness.
Wishing Peach Blossom/
Last but not lease, the "Wishing Tree" for visitors to write under their wishes on the paper petals and hang on the "tree".
