From Buda To Pest

Budapest has it all: fairytale architecture, cheap drinks, a terrifying history and an admirable love of paprika. As one of the most rapidly developing cities in Europe, it’s a charming and sometimes confusing mix of opulence, Soviet-style austerity and hipster cool. Immensely affordable, safe, and easy to get around, there is no reason not to see this marvellous city at least once in your lifetime.

After a number of trips within Europe, #Budapest remains one of my favorites. Last year I spent 4 days together with my girlfriend @madeforseaside in January. It was super cold but that made this city even more mysterious! We had a lovely stay in The Magazine Hotel which was located at the St. Stephen's Square in downtown Budapest.

What we love the most about city trips in general is wandering around the streets, feeling the vibe of a city and finding new hidden spots. We mostly go with the flow and end up somewhere at a beautiful sight or somewhere lost. But that's what we like!

"Budapest is paradise for explorers. Keep your senses primed and you'll discover something wonderful at every turn"

few things that made our stay amazing, so we can recommend this to everyone:

  • A walk along the Donau on the sight of Pest you'll have a beautiful view of Buda on the other side of the Donau
  • Go to the top of the cupola of St. Stephen's Basilica also known as the biggest church of Budapest where you'll end up with an amazing 360ᵒ view
  • Take a Danube River Cruise Buda is beautiful by day, but absolutely stunning by night as the buildings lining the banks of the Danube twinkle and reflect on the dark waters
  • Blue Fox The Bar is the best cocktailbar we've been so far. Chique, unique and delicious cocktails and cheap compared to what we're used to!

  • Only for the ruin bar Szimpla Kert we would go back. This bar has different rooms with different kinds of music and atmospheres, also the interior is totally amazing.
  • Go Hungarian Wine Tasting Faust Wine Cellar is part of the vast labyrinth system winding beneath Buda Castle
  • Shop at the Central Market Hall, Built in the 19th century, the Central Market Hall is the largest indoor market in Budapest and the focus is on typical Hungarian products.
  • The last day we wanted to go to the Gellert Spa. A spa that not too many tourists are visiting so it would be more hygienic. We ended up at the Géllert Hill instead of the Spa and again watched Buda and Pest from high above which was amazing. Unfortunately for the Spa but that's something we'll do next time!

As a chill descends, the Hungarian capital – with its historic grand cafés, ornate baths and festive markets – really comes to life

Budapest is an easy city to navigate, with the river at its heart. Cross a bridge to the west and you’re in Buda, the leafy hills hiding natural hot springs and crowned with a palace that provide views down to the scene-stealing gothic parliament building on the far riverbank. Behind this is Pest, the eastern city, unified with Buda in 1873, where you’ll find attractive boulevards and the Jewish quarter, which has seen a bohemian drinking scene develop around dilapidated courtyards beautified with eclectic art and flea market furniture.

If you are going to budapest this year or next year, I wish you a lot of fun while exploring. If this post is usefull for you, then please resteem and upvote! I wish you a wonderful day.
