Lost In The Cloud Forest (Original Footage)

In defense of the last Laurisilva Forests.

These temperate rainforests once covered much of southern Europe, but are now extinct on the European mainland. The only remnants are found on the Canary Islands (La Gomera, La Palma, Tenerife). This video shows me walking through pristine laurisilva cloud forest in Tenerife. It was extremely wet and slippery and I somehow got lost, but you got to love these spindly branches. When I finally got out my prospects were golden - see for yourself and make sure to turn on the sound.

Did you know that these forests create moisture out of thin air? Moist air passing in from the Atlantic Ocean leads to so called 'fog precipitation' where humidity condensates on the vegetation. So no rain is required for these forests to thrive. Once they are lost, rivers run dry and water becomes scarce. So let's better take care.
