There are about 36 underground cities in Cappadocia. Derinkuyu is the deepest underground city going down 18 stories deep and runs 60 meters below the surface. The entire complex can shelter 20,000 people.
This is the largest excavated city in Turkey where you can see storage rooms, refectories, stables, oil presses, chapels and wine presses. So when you come to Turkey, make it a point to visit this place located in the Nevsehir Province. In these coming days, I will share more with you about why these underground cities were built.
