Dear Steemians,
I am so grateful that we are finally able to visit Dubai this year. Dubai is truly a growing dynamic city with a wealth of hidden gems. While most people see Dubai as one of the world's most skyscrapers impressive buildings, it is interesting to remember that this glamorous city is built in the middle of desert sand.
Dubai is built on Sand!
Let me show you the sand that Dubai is built on. Dubai is constantly building everywhere. We have come to this new area with lots of construction in progress.
You see the original sand everywhere in the construction site. Isn't this something?
Take a look at the sand for yourself.
Dubai is situated within the Arabian Desert
Let's go to the stunning Arabian Desert of Dubai. Are you ready?
This stunning desert surrounds the city of Dubai, especially in the Southern region.
Captivating Sand Dunes
When you come into the desert, like us, you will be captivated by its wide expanses of sand. The desert is basically a barren area made of small hillocks called dunes.
A dune is actually a mound of sand formed by the wind. These dunes are not static and they keep shifting with the direction of strong winds. We need to be aware that the desert is prone to sand storms which we have experienced when we were in Mongolia. When the wind blows, there is zero visibility. So you don't want to be caught in the wind while you are in the desert. It is the wind that helps form their different shapes.
Look at how beautifully the dunes are formed in layers that are twirled one on top of the other.
Look at how deep my footsteps go into the sand.
Color of sand also changes throughout the day.
The Desert is a Barren Area of Landscape
I love visiting the desert and spending some time exploring the place. Little precipitation occurs here and consequently living conditions are hostile for plant and animal life.
You wonder how these little shrubs survive and get their water in the middle of the desert. It means that besides the little precipitation, it does rain in the desert even though it is very rare.
Can Only Go Into the Desert in 4X4 Jeeps
In Dubai, you can't go on public transport to go into the desert. You need to hire an experienced four wheeled driver to take you there, or you book with their popular Desert Safari Package with licensed operators. Here, they use their 4X4 jeeps that will bash you through the high dunes into the desert.
The fun adventure begins once the highway driving is replaced by sand. At this point in time, the driver driver will deflate the car’s tyre pressure, so that they can drive on the soft surface of the sand without sinking in.
There are 7 of us on this Jeep. I was fortunate enough to have the front seat of the four wheeled drive. If you can, grab the front seat. Also a perfect spot for me to take pictures and videos. You really need to hold on tight as the experienced driver whips you around the sand dunes, teetering on the edge of seemingly sheer drops as it dips down the sandy slopes and back up again.
Ride on the Arabian Desert in Style - Dune Bashing
Dune-bashing is basically driving around the desert, going up and down the sand dunes literally in the craziest way possible. It is like a wild roller coaster ride getting your adrenaline pumping. Tomorrow I will show you a video to take you on an actual ride. Everyone should experience this once in a life time.
Our driver here is really good so it is quite safe. But we saw someone throwing up in the middle of the ride, so it is not for everyone especially if you are proned to car sick.
Desert Takes Up 1/3 of the Earth's Surface
Desert is a harsh place for easy survival. Today, about 2.5 million people still live in deserts, especially in the Sahara region of Africa which I hope to visit one day.
For us city people, it is certainly a worthwhile experience to go into the desert and experience the peace and quietness that desert life brings.
Wherever I go, whether it is Egypt, Israel or Mongolia, and now in Dubai, I make it a point to go to the desert to experience the peace and quietness desert life brings.
Hope you enjoy this post.

Steemians,
