City Yerevan

Yerevan is the capital of Armenia and one of the oldest cities in the world. The year of foundation of Yerevan is 782 BC, when the king of Urartu Argishti I founded the city - the fortress of Erebuni.

In 1827 the city became part of the Russian Empire. At that time in the city there were only a few blocks and several mosques, and there were about 15 thousand people living there. Then the city developed, it was built and today Yerevan is already the largest city of Armenia.

The Armenian Diaspora around the world considers it its cultural and spiritual center, actively influences the development of Yerevan, helps restore historical monuments and open new museums.

Of the erivan mosques Huseynali Khan "The Blue Mosque" was preserved, it was built in 1776. The name of the mosque was not due to the color of the external walls, they are actually a creamy - brick shade, but because of the color of the dome, made in azure colors. In Turkic this shade is called geo-jami. Today it is the only functioning Muslim temple in the territory of Yerevan, and the "Blue Mosque" looks very beautiful.

And between the streets of Baghramyan and Mesrop Mashtots Avenue there is a magnificent architectural structure - the Cascade. This is a very beautiful place, coming to Yerevan I always come here, but these steps from milk tuff have to be overcome with difficulty. But, if you do not hurry and just enjoy beautiful flower beds, fountains and night illumination, then this is just a paradise, which fits perfectly into the surrounding landscape of Yerevan.

At the base of the Cascade you can see beautiful sculptures from the private collection of the famous Colombian artist Fernando Botero, about which I mentioned yesterday in your post. This collection of sculptures was presented to the city by American businessman and collector of Armenian origin Gerald Gafeschyan, now there are numerous tourists, and the residents of Yerevan are happy to spend their free time here.

In Yerevan you can see the largest Armenian Orthodox Cathedral, it was built in 1997 - 2001 in memory of the 1700th anniversary of Armenia's acceptance of Christianity. It stores the relics of Gregory the Illuminator, who were brought to Yerevan from Naples.

But when many tourists come here, they immediately go to the Yerevan Brandy Factory, whose products are famous all over the world, and, of course, taste Armenian cognac.

But if you find yourself in the south-west of the city, then you should take a walk along the picturesque alley that will take you to Mesrop Mashtots Avenue. I advise you to go to the Central Market and visit the famous Blue Mosque. There, not far from it, you will see the majestic Matenadaran. It contains the world's largest collection of ancient manuscripts.

Very much I love Yerevan, its inhabitants never hurry anywhere, all slowly walk, are cheerful, smiling, are hospitable. Yes, I like the Armenian cuisine.

Come to Yerevan! You will see the ancient city, enjoy the picturesque surroundings, you will see both the unique mountain Ararat, and unforgettable houses from pink tuff.
