My travel to Beijing is coming to an end, and today I just stay in the hotel all day for a good rest. I have nothing to do but write something. After thinking for a while, I decide to set down my travel to the Summer Palace, which has left a deep impression on me. The reason why I visit the Summer Palace has two sides. One is that the beautiful sights there are attractive to me, and the other is that there are fewer tourists than those in other places of interest, which makes me enjoy this process. Here are some of the most impressive attractions and related knowledge.

The brief introduction of the Summer Palace

The Summer Palace was originally the palace and garden of the Qing emperor and the so-called palace is the temporary residence when the emperor comes out of the Forbidden City. The Summer Palace was formerly known as Qingyi Garden, which is one of the royal gardens. The royal gardens are said to have three hills and five gardens. They respectively refer to the Longevity Hill, Fragrant Hill, Jade Spring Hill, Qing Yi Garden, Jingming Garden, Jingyi Garden,  Garden of Everlasting Spring and Yuanmingyuan Imperial Garden. The Summer Palace mainly consists of Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake , which contains thousands of  palace buildings.

1. Tower of Buddhist Incense (Foxiang Ge)

We went into the Palace through the north gate. After climbing onto the top of the hill, we saw the ticket entrance of  Foxiang Ge. When entering it, what shocked me most was the thousand-handed Guanyin Buddha in the cabinet. Originally built during the reign of Emperor Qianlong and destroyed by the Anglo-French Allied Forces,  it was rebuilt in its original style during Emperor Guangxu's reign(1875-1908) , That statue of the thousand-handed Guanyin Buddha was cast during the reign of Emperor Wanli of the Ming Dynasty.

Stones and red walls can be seen everywhere on the hillside of Longevity Hill. I am experiencing the place which the emperor walked through.

The little beasts on the top of the roof have different symbolic meanings, some of them for benediction and others for exorcise evil spirits.

Seen form the bottom of Foxiang Ge, it looks great.

Delicate pictures and patterns record the glory of the Qing Dynasty.

2. Kunming Lake and Seventeen-Arch Bridge

Climbing over Longevity Hill, Kunming Lake came into my sight.  This lake occupies three quarters of the size of the Summer Palace area. At first sight, the lake  is connected with the mountain, and some boats are making their way to the opposite bank. What a beautiful landscape. Kunming Lake has a bridge of 17 holes, which is the only way to South Lake Island.

The construction of the  Seventeen-Arch Bridge is very unique,  which is up to 150 meters. Seen from the distance, it looks magnificent. The bridge decorates Kunming Lake, which shows lively.

3. Hall of Dispelling Clouds (Paiyun Dian)

Paiyun Dian is located in the center of Longevity Hill. Originally built  during the reign of Emperor Qianlong, it is built for the birth of his mother, known as  the Hall of the Great Buddha of the Temple of Immense Gratitude and Longevity in the Garden of Clear Ripples. After the destruction of the the Anglo-French Allied Forces, Empress Dowager Cixi later renamed Paiyun Dian , specifically as the place to celebrate her birthday.  Now there remain many antiquities of the Qing Dynasty, some of which are used by Empress Dowager Cixi and some are the birthday presents offered by princes, dukes and high-ranking officials.

My deepest impression of the Summer Palace is the landscape and its holy land of  Buddhism.  No matter where I go, I always think of the place where the royal family played and lived here. I think the extraordinary scene must be more spectacular  and brilliant than today. The Summer Palace is a good place, but this tour is not comprehensive. If there were a chance, I would visit again. Enjoy every place in it and feel the royal garden.
