📷Pictures from Universal's Volcano Bay - ColorChallenge FridayBlue

Last weekend we went to Universal's Volcano Bay in Orlando. Since it is a water park with many "blue" features, I figured this would be a great #FridayBlue @ColorChallenge post.

This new water park opened at the end of May this year and was built to replace the well-known Wet 'n Wild that stood for decades at the end of International Drive. Since the opening of Volcano Bay, the Wet 'n Wild water park has been demolished and is now just an empty lot. I'm not sure what Universal has planned for the property.

Taniwha Tubes: 4 Twisting 2-person tube slides, usually no wait time.

The Taniwha Tubes were really fun and perfect for filling in the time waiting for the bigger slides that required a wait time. Each slide is a bit different, blue are 100% enclosed tubes, green are 50/50 open/closed tubes.

The centerpiece Volcano, with Ko'okiri Body Plunge

The central Volcano hosts many different attractions built into it. From multiple water slides and tubes, to hidden walkways and interactive Tiki zone inside it. The lazy river also passes through the Volcano. In case you're wondering, we DID NOT do the Ko'okiri Body Plunge. :-)

TapuTapu wrist bands.

The TapuTapu wrist bands are an interesting concept, but at times can be frustrating. On rides that have wait times, you tap your wrist band at the designated interactive kiosk for that ride. Your band then tells you when it's time to go back to the ride. Very quickly in the day, the wait times were 180 minutes for many of the rides. Yup - 3 hours!

That is where the conflict of these bands comes in. You can only have 1 ride held in your band, meaning you have to choose the ones you want to do by priority. Out of the 6 big, popular rides, you are lucky to get on 3 of them in a day. So we spent most of the day in the lazy river, the kid's zone for our son, and over at the Taniwha Tubes since they had no wait time.

We never got on the Krakatau Aqua Coaster shown on our bands in the picture. As we got down to 30 minutes, from the initial 190 minutes, thunderstorms rolled in and they closed everything down.
