Last July I went on a tour along coast line of Oregon with my friend. We drove for 3 days and visited several great locations in Oregon. Smith Rock is one of it. It’s located in central Oregon’s High Desert. It’s a very ideal place for rock climbing of all difficult levels.
Geology of Smith Rock is volcanic. It is made up of layers of basalt flows overlaying clarno ash and tuff formations. There are several different hiking trails, upper and lower gorges, red wall, picnic lunch wall, morning glory wall, rope-de-dope, Dihedrals, etc. The scene is breathtaking.
