As soon as you walk into this museum, in the center of the show room on your left, high up in the air, you will see the skeletons of 4 whales. The one at the back is Humpback whale. It has been in this museum since 1936. The one in the middle, which is also the biggest one is Blue Whale. It has been in this museum for more than 10 years. It's around 66ft long, and was not fully grown. The skeleton weighs more than 8,000lbs. The nearest one to the entrance are from a 49ft female right whale, when it was accidentally killed in Nov 2004, she was ten months pregnant.

In the showroom on the 2nd floor, there is another skeleton of a sperm whale. The museum presents stories of the whaling history in this town, who caught the whales, what did they do with the whales after they caught them etc. People caught whale for its valuable blubber, baleen, or spermaceti. People also used to use the whale skin and skeleton to build houses with no waste.

I didn't expect the museum to be this big. There are many other rooms one afer another, presenting different themes and cultures. There is a room for Chinese and Japanese respectively, and many galleries with sailing boating theme and people, etc. There is a plaque saying "have compassion for all mankind" by Yuan Shikai, the first president of the republic of China after 1911 revolution. There are also many Chinese antiques and drawings. As a Chinese, it's good to see these antiques from my home country, I hope they were obtained by the proper ways. Historically a lot of Chinese precious antiques were robbed or stolen. Anyhow, I am glad that they are well preserved and open for public to admire.
