Hey guys! I have completed the next three-hour tour and have now arrived in Skopje! The trip went really smoothly, even the officials at the border were very nice, only the navigation via Google Maps let me down a bit in between. The motorway between Nis and Skopje is unfortunately still very incomplete and is partly under construction, which was probably a bit too complicated. The traffic here in Skopje is also quite crazy. Especially the many honking horns, one is not used to as a Central European, but I already know this from earlier road trips in the region.
Hallo Leute! Ich habe die nächste dreistündige Etappe hinter mir und bin mittlerweile in Skopje angekommen! Die Fahrt lief echt problemlos, sogar die Beamten an der Grenze waren sehr nett, nur die Navigation via Google Maps hat mich zwischendurch etwas im Stich gelassen. Die Autobahn zwischen Niš und Skopje ist leider noch sehr lückenhaft und befindet sich teilweise erst im Bau, das war dann wohl etwas zu kompliziert. Der Straßenverkehr hier in Skopje ist auch recht verrückt. Vor allem das viele Hupen, ist man als Mitteleuropäer nicht gewohnt, aber ich kenne das ja schon von früheren Roadtrips in der Region.
I've really found a dream hotel here. The room is so clean and modern furnished, I feel very comfortable here! Well and that for just about 25€ per night. It's really amazing what you get here for your money. If you use the room for two, you pay just under 13€ per person and night, including super-fast WiFi and supervised parking.
Ich habe hier wirklich ein traumhaftes Hotel erwischt. Das Zimmer ist so sauber und modern eingerichtet, fühle mich sehr wohl! Tja und das um ca. 25€ pro Nacht. Es ist wirklich Wahnsinn, was man hier für sein Geld bekommt. Nutzt man das Zimmer zu zweit, zahlt man gerade mal knapp 13€ pro Person und Nacht und das inklusive superschnellem WiFi und überwachtem Parkplatz.
After the first city walk I was immediately fascinated by the monumental architecture. A lot has been built here in the last few years and the new center seems like a crazy mixture of Rome, Athens, Paris and London.
Nach dem ersten Stadtspaziergang war ich gleich von der monumentalen Architektur begeistert. Hier wurde in den letzten Jahren extrem viel gebaut und das neue Zentrum kommt einem vor wie eine verrückte Mischung aus Rom, Athen, Paris und London.
However, the pompous buildings are less popular with the inhabitants themselves, as I have already learned. It would have been better to invest the money in road construction. The position is totally understandable for me. On the other hand, however, more and more tourists are to be attracted, which in turn generates income for the city - a difficult topic I would say.
Bei den Einwohnern selbst sind die pompösen Bauten jedoch weniger beliebt, wie ich bereits erfahren habe. Man hätte das Geld lieber in den Straßenbau investieren können. Der Standpunkt ist für mich total nachvollziehbar. Andererseits sollen ja aber immer mehr Touristen angelockt werden, was der Stadt wiederum Einnahmen bringt - ein schwieriges Thema würde ich sagen.
Anyway, I'm very impressed by the architecture. As a photographer you definitely don't lack great motives here. Tonight I'm going to try to take some good night shots, can't wait for that.
Ich bin jedenfalls sehr angetan von der Architektur hier. Es mangelt einem als Fotograf hier definitiv nicht an tollen Motiven. Heute Abend werde ich mal versuchen, ein paar gute Nachtaufnahmen zu schießen, kann es schon kaum erwarten.
In the oriental old town, the Macedonian capital shows its second face. I loved this style already in Sarajevo and here it is very similar. A labyrinth of cobblestone streets, numerous traditional restaurants and cafés, lots of souvenir shops and in the background you hear again and again a call for prayer from the mosques. It really is a unique atmosphere.
In der orientalischen Altstadt zeigt die mazedonische Hauptstadt ihr zweites Gesicht. Ich habe ja diesen Stil schon in Sarajevo geliebt und hier ist es sehr ähnlich. Ein Labyrinth aus kopfsteingepflasterten Gassen, zahlreiche traditionelle Restaurants und Cafés, jede Menge Souvenirläden und im Hintergrund hört man immer wieder von den Moscheen, den Ruf zum Gebet. Es ist wirklich eine einzigartige Atmosphäre.
Today I make a trip to a canyon nearby. Tomorrow I want to climb the Vodno. This mountain should offer a breathtaking view of the city and its surroundings. I also have to visit the fortress of Skopje and some other highlights. I plan to continue the tour on Monday, but there is so much to see and experience here that I might stay longer. I'll keep you informed.
Heute mache ich einen Ausflug zu einem Canyon hier in der Nähe. Morgen will ich den Vodno erklimmen. Dieser Berg soll eine atemberaubende Aussicht auf die Stadt und ihre Umgebung bieten. Außerdem muss ich mir noch die Festung von Skopje ansehen und einige weitere Highlights. Ich plane am Montag weiterzufahren, allerdings gibt es hier so viel zu sehen und zu erleben, dass ich eventuell länger bleibe. Ich halte euch informiert.
Oh, and I checked the weather forecast yesterday. It's hard to believe, but I have really stable midsummer weather here in April. This is absolutely not self-evident for the region. So I really can't complain 😉
Ach ja und ich habe gestern gleich mal den Wetterbericht gecheckt. Kaum zu glauben, aber ich habe hier wirklich stabiles Hochsommerwetter im April. Das ist absolut nicht selbstverständlich für die Region. Ich kann mich also wirklich nicht beschweren 😉
