Hello Steemians! Did you have a good start of the new week? If you had a stressful Monday morning, maybe reading an article about a beautiful place will cool you down and help you to relax a bit ;-) Today I want to show you my favourite place in Japan. The city of Nara is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the country and because of its location, it's an ideal destination for a day trip from Kyoto by train. Most people don't know that Nara was even Japans capital in the eighth and ninth century. So it's no surprise that the city has to offer an amazing cultural heritage, but what makes it so special, is that animals and humans seem to live there together in peace and harmony like nowhere else.

Wenn ihr einen stressigen Montagvormittag hattet, hilft euch ein Artikel über einen schönen Ort vielleicht dabei, etwas runter zu kommen und zu entspannen ;-) Heute möchte ich euch meinen Lieblingsort in Japan zeigen. Die Stadt Nara ist eine der beliebtesten Touristendestinationen des Landes und aufgrund seiner Lage, ein ideales Ziel für einen Tagesausflug mit dem Zug von Kyoto. Was die meisten Leute gar nicht wissen, ist, dass Nara im achten und neunten Jahrhundert sogar mal Japans Hauptstadt war. Es ist also keine Überraschung, dass die Stadt ein reiches, kulturelles Erbe zu bieten hat. Das wirklich Besondere ist aber, dass Menschen und Tiere hier in Harmonie und Einklang zu leben scheinen, wie an kaum einem anderen Ort.

A Park full of Temples and Deer/Ein Park voller Tempel und Rehe

This picture may seem a bit surreal to you, as you surely know deer only as very shy animals, but this goes not for the Nara Park, which is the main attraction of the city. You can find all the famous temples and shrines there, and more than 1,000 of these fascinating animals. It's hard to believe, but these deer are so tame that you can even stroke them, they don't run away! At several locations in the park, there are shops for deer cookies, and once they have recognized that you have food for them, you will soon be surrounded by many begging deer, which is pretty funny. If you like animals, you will surely enjoy your time with them.

Dieses Bild erscheint euch vielleicht etwas surreal, da ihr Rehe sicher nur als sehr scheue Tiere kennt, aber das gilt nicht für den Nara Park, der die Hauptattraktion der Stadt ist. Dort könnt ihr all die berühmten Tempel und Schreine finden, aber auch über 1.000 dieser faszinierenden Tiere. Es ist schwer zu glauben, aber die Rehe sind so zahm, dass ihr sie sogar streicheln könnt, sie rennen nicht weg! Es gibt im ganzen Park verteilt Stände, die „Rehkekse“ verkaufen. Mit einer Packung dieser Kekse in der Hand, zieht ihr schnell die Aufmerksamkeit auf euch und seid in kürzester Zeit umzingelt von einem Haufen bettelnder Rehe, was wirklich ziemlich lustig ist. Wenn ihr Tiere mögt, werdet ihr eure Zeit mit ihnen sicher genießen!

A Building like no Other/Ein Gebäude wie kein Anderes

Besides making new deer-friends, you shouldn't forget to explore the city and especially the temples and shrines at the Nara Park. The main sight is a Buddhist Temple called Todai-ji, which is not less than the largest wooden building in the whole world! I know, that it doesn't look so huge on the photo above, but you can believe me, that standing in front of it is just a jaw-dropping! This was the biggest Wow-Moment of my whole trip to Japan! Todai-ji is not only impressive from outside though, if you walk inside, you will find a 15 meter high Buddha statue, which is the tallest of the whole country!

Bei allen neuen Rehfreundschaften, die ihr schließt, solltet ihr dennoch nicht vergessen, die Stadt und vor allem die Tempel und Schreine des Nara Parks, zu erkunden. Die Hauptsehenswürdigkeit ist ein buddhistischer Tempel namens Todai-ji. Hierbei handelt es sich um nichts geringeres, als das größte Holzgebäude der Welt! Ich weiß, dass es auf dem Foto nicht so wirklich rüber kommt, aber ihr könnt mir glauben, dass es einfach nur atemberaubend ist, vor diesem riesigen Tempel zu stehen. Es war der größte Wow-Moment meiner gesamten Zeit in Japan. Aber nicht nur von außen ist Todai-ji beeindruckend, wenn ihr hineingeht, findet ihr eine 15 Meter hohe Buddhastatue – die Größte in ganz Japan!

An unforgettably peaceful Ambience/Eine unvergesslich friedliche Atmosphäre

After spending an afternoon between tame deer and beautiful temples and shrines (that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites by the way), I felt deeply relaxed, when I was walking back to the train station. The ambience in the whole city is hard to put into words, it's just something special. The Band Alt-J released a full album about Nara. I want to show you the title track, because especially this one conveys that typical Nara-feeling pretty well:

Nachdem ich einen Nachmittag zwischen zahmen Rehen und wunderschönen Tempeln und Schreinen (die übrigens auch zum UNESCO Weltkulturerbe gehören) verbracht hatte, fühlte ich mich absolut tiefenentspannt, als ich zum Bahnhof zurückspazierte. Die Atmosphäre in der gesamten Stadt ist schwer in Worte zu fassen, einfach etwas besonderes. Die Band Alt-J widmete Nara ein ganzes Album. Ich möchte euch den Titelsong zeigen, denn besonders dieser vermittelt dieses typische Nara-Feeling ziemlich gut:

I was pretty sad that I had to catch my train back to Kyoto in the late afternoon already. There would have been much more to see, but unfortunately, my time was too short. I can really recommend you, not to make the same mistake like me, and stay in Nara at least one or two nights. I'm sure, you will enjoy the amazing experience to visit this magical city!

Ich war ziemlich traurig, dass ich schon am späten Nachmittag in den Zug zurück nach Kyoto steigen musste. Es hätte noch viel mehr zu sehen gegeben, aber leider war meine Zeit zu kurz. Ich kann euch wirklich empfehlen, nicht denselben Fehler wie ich zu machen, und zumindest eine, oder zwei Nächte in Nara zu bleiben. Ich bin mir sicher, dass ihr die unglaubliche Erfahrung, diese magische Stadt zu besuchen, sehr genießen werdet!
