Travel Pro Eats #7: Party Buffet in Chiang Mai Thailand (19 photos)

My Steemit Friends! Let's Party! At the Party Buffet in Chiang Mai Thailand! It's no joke either, with the hours they stay open you'd think it's a night club; 5pm to 6am. However the only dancing going on were the people going from their table to the buffet and back. But this really is a party of all you can eat goodness! The food is fresh and the quality is excellent!

This buffet was so good and affordable I ended up eating there about three times a week during my recent three week stay in Chiang Mai Thailand. In this part of the world the "hot pot" buffet or "barbecue" buffet is quite common. These style buffets are always a combination of grill and boiling broth to cook your own food at your table. For many westerners they don't really know what they are doing. They just want to go up to the buffet, put food on their plate, and sit down and eat; but it simply doesn't work that way.

As you can see in the photos below there are plenty of prepared dishes, if you stick to only them you eliminate half the buffet. Being "Travel Pro" I have over 15 years of experience cooking my own food at restaurants from Korea to Cambodia! A little strategy will make your dining experience so much better!

What you want to do is once you get to the buffet, spend five minutes setting up your table. The only thing the waiters do here are remove used plates and refill your pot with broth. To setup your table right, you go to the buffet and get all your silverware including tongs. I ask the waiter for meat cutting scissors which are given only upon request. Now that's "travel pro!"

Make several trips back and forth and get all your condiments ready. Get all the fresh raw vegetables, mushrooms, meat that you want to use for your soup and grill. This will all help build up your appetite too. On your last trip up before you're ready to be your own chef, get some prepared food so you have something to munch on while you're cooking. Next learn how to control the temperature of your electric grill or be prepared to unplug it after each round of cooking or is will start to burn the drippings and so on.

Now that you're all set up, rub that chunk of pork fat they give you all over your grill to grease it up then start throwing stuff on the grill and in the pot of boiling broth. Now we're cooking! Once your food is cooked to your liking enjoy! Special "Travel Pro Tip" sometimes they have things on the buffet that are already cooked but could use a little reheating, or could be cooked further. I kept putting fried chicken wings on the grill to get them like they just came out of the fryer once again, same with some lovely pieces of fatty pork shank. Delicious!

Since it takes a while to cook your food and eat it. My friend George and I from London would go there and spend about three hours just hanging out, cooking, and chowing down. Now here is the part you won't believe; this all you can eat buffet is six dollars! Until next time- Dan "World Travel Pro!"
