Travel Tip #2: How to Deal with Pushy Airport Taxi Drivers

Around the world Taxi Drivers line up at airports waiting for confused tourists. Central and South America are some of the worst offenders. They are often very aggressive and commonly offer a price two or three times the going rate.

When they shout "Where you need to go?" or "Come with me, we go now." I just say. "I'm good" or "I'm taken the bus"

To avoid this chicanery I go with a bus from the airport whenever possible. A bus is always cheaper, you don't have to negotiate a cab, your with the locals doing as they do.

In precaution I always look up transportation options online the night before. While at the airport I'll ask someone working at a food stand who looks friendly; they surely have no conflict of interest.

If a taxi is the best option I'll walk to a main road and catch one going by. If that is not feasible, I just take a taxi from the airport; but I'll know the going rate and go with a driver who will accept that.
