Freedom is defined as one's ability to think, act, speak, etc. without being restrained. Freedom is what America stands for. Or so we think. While we are a free country, we are still restrained by how much our employer will pay us, how much house the bank tells us we can buy, how much we pay in taxes, what we pay for gas or food, etc. So what are our choices to achieve freedom. Accept that which we cannot control and just enjoy life or make choices that others may see as CRAZY!
I am excited to share our journey as we create our own freedom and lead a more nomadic life. We need your support since most of the people we know and love either wish they had the balls or think we have gone completely mad.
So here we are on day 5 of travel from Florida to Yellowstone for the summer. Our 307 mile destination location for the night is Lewis and Clark State Park in Rushville, MO.
Crossing the Missouri River
We arrived at Lewis and Clark State Park around 3:30 pm. It is funny because when we called to make sure they had a spot for us for one night, we were told they only had 6. When we got there, we were only 1 of about 6 campers that include the camp host with over 60 sites. The camp host lady, who I named Agnes, asked us about 3 times that we are only staying one night right? Like we were going to pull in and never leave.
After we got settled, we thought it would be nice to take our evening walk and check out the history in this park about Lewis and Clark. It was a real disappointment. The campground is not in the State Park and the gates to the State Park closed at 4:30 on Tuesday and Wednesday, so we could not get in. I am pretty sure that Lewis and Clark did not stop exploring at 4:30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
We headed out to take our dog for a nice leisurely stroll around the campground only to be attacked by a constant barrage of bugs. Even 4 coats of bug spray did not keep them away. Somehow about 500 or more got into our trailer and were covering the ceiling. Joe, @jbreheny spent a half hour sucking them up with the vacuum.
Here is a pic of this little guy that was such a great site to just a crappy evening. Finally, something to give me a piece of happy for the day.
What are a couple of Steemians, me and @jbreheny, on the road stuck in a bug infested State Park for the night going to do? We caught up on some much needed writing and got to bed early.
At the end of the day, I am so grateful we had a safe day of traveling and that I have the opportunity in life to pursue my definition of freedom.
Over the past 5 days, we have traveled 1383 miles with 979 left to go. Each day over the next week we will be traveling much shorter distances. We opted to drive more in the beginning so that we could enjoy more time in South Dakota and Wyoming before heading into Yellowstone.
