Travel Tip: Chynov Cave, the most colorful cave in the Czech Republic

Dear Steemit friends and followers,

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.

Today, I would like to take you to one of the most beautiful natural places of the country, the amazing cave of Chynov.

Located just outside the town of Tabor in the southern part of the Czech Republic, the Chynov Cave is a cave system measuring over 1,200 m (almost 4,000 ft) in length. The cave was discovered in 1863 during works in nearby quarry and five years later, in 1868, it was opened to public.

Unlike some other cave systems in the Czech Republic, the Chynov Cave cannot boast many impressive stalagmites and stalactites but what it lacks in these features, it greatly makes up for with the colors of its walls and ceilings. Striking white, yellow and brown marble facets combined with dark amphibolite stripes makes it the most colorful cave in the country.

The tour takes approximately 40 minutes and the basic entrance fee is 100 CZK (4 EUR / 5 USD). The Chynov Cave is closed during the winter as it is when the cave serves as the wintering site to several bat species.
