Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.
Today, I will show you a true hidden gem of the country, the picturesque little town of Vimperk.

Located in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, Vimperk is a beautiful historic town that is currently home to some 7,400 people. Situated close to the famous Sumava National Park, the town is a popular starting point for hikes leading through the majestic Sumava Mountains.

With its origin dating back to the 13th century, the town is also known for numerous historical sites and important architectural pieces. Dominated by a large Gothic castle, Vimperk boasts several impressive churches, ruins of medieval fortification, beautiful square with old colorful houses etc. The historic center of the town has the status of the municipal landmark zone.

Historically, the town was also known as an important regional trade hub, being located on the so called "Golden Trail" (or the Salt Path) from the German town of Passau.
