Donald Trump interview 1980 (Rona Barrett) [Reelin' In The Years Archives]
This is what is stated in the description under this video,
We are posting this 4 minute interview excerpt of a 34-year-old Donald Trump from October 6th, 1980, not for positive or negative political reasons but rather from an historical standpoint. We are in the business of licensing footage and that’s why our web site is across the screen (to protect it from being used without our permission) . We realize that Donald Trump’s presidency causes very strong emotions (both pro and con) but we are not in any way sharing this to take a side. We very much appreciate history and this is a fascinating interview considering that when our client Rona Barrett asked him these questions in 1980 he seemed to have no political aspirations, and now here in 2017, he’s days away from becoming President. Rona had not planned on asking him these political questions as she was there to interview him for a TV special on millionaires, but only a few minutes of the 47 minutes filmed ever aired, but nothing concerning politics.
We posted this interview for what it is, an historical document. We’re hoping (but realize it’s a long shot) that people will show restraint and keep the comments civil. We as archivists appreciate footage and the story it can tell about a moment in time. Over the last few decades, we’ve dedicated so much time, money and resources to build a company that locates, preserves and makes available for licensing, lost archival footage whether it be music performances or interviews with important figures in Film and Television, Comedy, Literature, Art, Science, Fashion, Sports and in the case of this unique interview with Donald Trump, politics.

Titled,
Who is Donald Trump's 'brilliant genius' nuclear Uncle John?
The article states,
It is not the first time the president has cited his late uncle to back up his arguments.
The uncle in question, Prof John Trump, passed away in 1985 - but who was he?
When asked how long it would take to denuclearise the Korean peninsula, the president referred to Prof John Trump.
"Well, I don't know, when you say a long time," the president said. "I think we will do it as fast as it can be done scientifically, as fast as it can be done mechanically.
"It's a 15-year process. Assuming you wanted to do it quickly, I don't believe that.
"I had an uncle who was a great professor for, I believe, 40 years at MIT. And I used to discuss nuclear with him all the time.
"He was a great expert. He was a great, brilliant genius. Dr John Trump at MIT.
"I think he was there 40 years, I was told. In fact, the head of MIT sent me a book on my uncle. But we used to talk about nuclear.
He was a professor of engineering at the elite Massachusetts Institute of Technology for 44 years.
According to MIT, Prof Trump focused on high voltage phenomena, electron acceleration and the interaction of radiation with living and non-living matter. He also designed X-ray generators for cancer therapy.
During World War Two, Prof Trump researched radars for the Allies. When legendary physicist Nikola Tesla died in 1943, Prof Trump was asked by the FBI to examine Tesla's papers and equipment.
Prof Trump co-founded a company making generators for use in nuclear research, according to MIT archives.
Physicist John Trump was the younger brother of Mr Trump's father, Fred.
John passed away in 1985 at the age of 78, according to an obituary in the New York Times.
Remember When,
Tesla began moving his laboratory operations from 46 East Houston Street laboratory to the 94-foot-square brick building at Wardenclyffe. By the end of 1902 the tower reached full height of 187 feet. What Tesla was up to at Wardenclyffe and the site itself was generally kept from the public. Tesla would respond to reporters inquiries stating there was a similar wireless plant in Scotland and that "We have been sending wireless messages for long distances from this station for some time, but whether we are going into the telegraph field on a commercial basis I cannot say at present.
This is interesting to me as Trump's mother was from a little village in Scotland.
As a side note,
Mom was Mary Anne MacLeod
Mother was from a humble family and grew up in a village in Scotland. Her dad was a fisherman and the village postmaster.
Father was Fred Christ, he was originally a builder from Queens
Uncle John Trump was an MIT professor, electrical engineer, inventor, and physicist., who knew Tesla and collected his papers/research after Tesla's death.
John Trump he developed one of the first million-volt X-ray generators with Robert J. Van de Graaff.
Trump switched from work on hospital X-ray machines to research into similar technologies with a more direct application to warfare, especially the development of radar. During 1940, he joined the newly formed National Defense Research Committee (NDRC)
During 1942, Trump became Secretary of the Microwave Committee, a sub-committee of the NDRC.
In 1943, as the technical aide in Division 14 of the NDRC, Trump reviewed and analyzed the papers of Nikola Tesla when the inventor died in a New York City hotel. The research was completed on behalf of the Alien property Custodian office in Washington DC. From February 1944 to the end of the war in Europe, Trump was the Director of the BBRL ("British Branch of the Radiation Laboratory" ).
Trump received recognition for his war-work from both the United States and the United Kingdom.

See more here,
Let's look into some more family history.
You have the name Trump,
While the surname Trump is found throughout Germany, it is recorded as the name of this family in Kallstadt since the 17th century, where many family members were winegrowers.
More is involved but some of the tasks include,
A winemaker or vintner is a person engaged in winemaking. They are generally employed by wineries or wine companies, where their work includes:
- Cooperating with viticulturists
- Monitoring the maturity of grapes to ensure their quality and to determine the correct time for harvest
- Crushing and pressing grapes
First part of Battle Hymn of the Republic,
"Mine eyes have seen the glory Of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage Where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning Of His terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on.
Several family members moved to and formed cadet branches in the United States in the 19th century, among them Charlotte Louisa Trump's son Johann Heinrich Heinz, the father of Henry J. Heinz, the founder of the Heinz company.
A prominent branch of the family is the line descended from Friedrich (Frederick) Trump (1869–1918) and his wife Elisabeth (née Christ; 1880–1966), both natives of Kallstadt.
Trump is a German surname derived from either the word for "drum" or for "trumpet".
The name is on record in Kallstadt from the 17th century.
3rd line of Battle Hymn of the Republic,
He has sounded forth the trumpet That shall never call retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of men Before His judgement seat; Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him; Be jubilant, my feet; Our God is marching on.
The grandfather of Donald Trump is Frederick Trump who was born 1869 in Kallstadt as Friedrich Trump.
Frederick Trump emigrated to the United States at the age of 16 and started working as a barber. Several years later, in 1891, he moved to the Northwest.
Perhaps their son, Trump's father got his name from the grandmother as Frederick was married to Elisabeth Christ.
Elisabeth Christ
was a German-American businesswoman.
She married Frederick Trump in 1902. While raising their three children, the early death of her husband in 1918 required the 37-year-old widow to manage their properties.
She founded the real estate development company Elizabeth Trump & Son with her son Fred.
The company, now known as the Trump Organization, is currently owned by her grandson, Donald Trump.
Great Grandparents of Donald Trump
Elizabeth Trump was born as Elisabeth Christ in Kallstadt, Kingdom of Bavaria, the daughter of Philipp Christ by his wife Anna Maria Christ (née Anthon). While the family owned a little vineyard, the income from that was not adequate to meet their needs, and Philipp Christ worked as a tinker repairing and polishing old utensils and selling pots and pans. He ran his trade from his house on Freinsheimer Straße in Kallstadt, which was just across the street from the home of the Trump family, where Katharina Trump, an elderly widow, lived with her six children.
Katharina's son Friedrich had immigrated to America in 1885 at the age of 16 and made his fortune with restaurants in the Klondike Gold Rush. When he returned to Germany in 1901, he wooed Elisabeth over the objections of his mother, who felt that her prosperous son could and should find a bride from a wealthier and more refined family than Elisabeth's. Nonetheless, Frederick proposed to Elisabeth, who accepted, and they were married on 26 August 1902.
He was 33 and she was 22-years-old. Frederick and Elisabeth moved to New York and they set up house in an apartment in the predominantly German quarter of Morrisania in the Bronx. Elizabeth (as her name was spelled in the US) kept house, while Frederick worked as a restaurant and hotel manager. Their first child, a daughter whom they named Elizabeth, was born on April 30, 1904.
After Elizabeth gave birth to her third child, John, the family moved to Queens, where Frederick began to develop real estate. In 1918, he died of influenza during the 1918 flu pandemic, leaving an estate valued at $31,359 ($492,016 in 2016 dollars).
A true family history based on the Entrepreneurial Spirit
She hired a contractor to build houses on an empty piece of property left by her husband, sold the houses, and lived off the mortgages paid by the new owners. Her vision was to have her three children continue the family business when they finished school, but Fred wanted to start earlier, so she founded the company Elizabeth Trump & Son, the predecessor of The Trump Organization.
Since Fred was still a minor, she had to sign all legal documents on his behalf, and perform the real estate closings. In 1927 when Fred was 22, Elizabeth Trump & Son was formally incorporated. Fred became quite successful with the business but Elizabeth remained involved throughout her life. Even in her 70s she would collect coins from the laundromats in Trump buildings.
What's in a Matriarch Hero
Elizabeth was considered the matriarch of the Trump family. She had "extraordinary determination". She dressed very conservatively and formally.
She was hardworking and had a stern demeanor. She remained close to her son Fred for her entire life.
Trump's Grandparents with father on the left, Fred and Uncle John on the right who knew Tesla.
Trump's grandparents faced the challenge of anti-German sentiment due to the war.
In 1908, Trump bought real estate on Jamaica Avenue in Woodhaven. Two years later, he moved his family into the building on the land, renting out several rooms.
Frederick Trump intended to continue buying more land, but during World War I he kept a low profile because of anti-German feelings in the US due to the war. German-born citizens came under suspicion.
Passport application of Frederick Trump
Trump's mother Mary Anne MacLeod,
Mary was the youngest of ten children born to Malcolm (1866–1954) and Mary MacLeod (née Smith; 1867–1963). Her father was a crofter, fisherman and compulsory officer at Mary's school. English was her second language, which she learned at the school she attended until secondary school.
Donald J. Trump had a grandfather on his mother's side who was a fisherman and crofter. This entailed small-scale food production particular to the Scottish Highlands, the islands of Scotland, and formerly on the Isle of Man.
Her paternal grandparents were Alexander MacLeod and Ann MacLeod; her maternal grandparents were Donald Smith and Mary MacAulay. They were from the locations of Vatisker and South Lochs, and some of the family's generations had suffered in the Highland Clearances.
The MacLeod family lived on a tidal flat that locals called “the saltings.” At certain times of the day, the muck would turn to quicksand as the tide rose. To get to church on Sundays, the family had to make their way across the flats in muck boots. Newsweek characterizes it as “a perilous journey that only fishing families would even attempt because people frequently drowned.”
Though her family lived in poverty, Donald Trump’s mother did see a few examples of how wealthier people lived. Newsweek reports that an English opium baron purchased the entire island where the MacLeod family lived during the middle of the 19th century, and built himself a Victorian castle.
The MacLeod family went to church on a street lined with brick mansions that belonged to local merchant. But, like other poor residents of the island, they were forbidden by the wealthy residents from walking on their street.
There’s plenty that the average American doesn’t know about Donald Trump’s mother. The president loves to talk about his dad, but has been pretty tight-lipped about his mom, Mary Anne MacLeod Trump.
As Newsweek reports, the woman who would later become Mary Anne MacLeod Trump grew up on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. That sounds idyllic. But the publication notes that she spent the first 17 years of her life in Tong, a fishing village, “closer to Iceland than to London.”
Though she later raised her son in a mansion in Queens, “she grew up among poor islanders in a two-bedroom rented cottage crammed with her and 10 siblings.”
Mary, Trump's mother's history reveals this part which may be where he got his name,
Mary MacLeod Trump's maternal line was also well established in Tong, her mother, Mary, being born there in 1867 to Donald Smith and Mary Macaulay Smith. They had been married in Garrabost, also in the parish of Stornoway, in 1858. At that time Donald was said to have been a fisherman and the son of Duncan Smith and Henrietta MacQueen Smith. A note of tragedy creeps into the family tree here as Donald was lost in Broadbay, off Vatisher Point, Stornoway when a squall of wind overturned his open boat in 1868. He was aged thirty four and left his widow to carry on the family croft after his death and to bring up their four children, the youngest of whom, Mary, was only a year old.
She and her family lived in this part of their village.
Her family lived on a tidal flat called ‘the saltings’
They had to wear muck boots to get to church.
Newsweek goes on to report that the MacLeod family lived on a tidal flat that locals called “the saltings.” At certain times of the day, the muck would turn to quicksand as the tide rose. To get to church on Sundays, the family had to make their way across the flats in muck boots. Newsweek characterizes it as “a perilous journey that only fishing families would even attempt because people frequently drowned.”
On all days of the week other than Sunday, the MacLeods worked hard. They dug peat to burn. They also hauled in fishing nets in the rain. And they even farmed crops in the rocky soil.
Despite her family’s poverty, she did see how the wealthy lived.
Donald Trump’s mother saw some examples of how rich people lived.
Mary Anne MacLeod left for New York as a young woman
Poor islanders had several reasons to leave the Isle of Lewis — something Mary Anne MacLeod would eventually do. They had been abused by the wealthy for years. And both World War I and a local shipwreck — a disaster that killed 200 soldiers returning from the front — decimated the male population of the island.
That shortage of men, plus the promise of a better life in America, led Mary Anne MacLeod to join her older sisters in New York in 1929.
With several sisters having already established themselves there, Mary Anne MacLeod may have first visited the United States for a short stay in December 1929. She was issued immigration visa number 26698 at Glasgow on February 17, 1930.
MacLeod’s older sisters had married butlers and were working as maids or servants in New York. They got her a job when she arrived. Six years after she arrived, she “met a blonde, mustachioed, first-generation German-American at a party in Queens. They later married.”
On May 2, MacLeod departed Glasgow on board the RMS Transylvania arriving in New York City on May 11, one day after her 18th birthday.
on the traveler list for foreigners were; permanently she was striving for to move to the United States, she went for employment and her intention not to return to the place where she came. Her occupation as maid or servant as her sister, Mary Joan was by Macleod.
Mary was classified as an economic migrant, one of tens of thousands of young Scots who left for the United States or Canada during this period, Scotland having suffered badly the consequences of the Clearances and World War I.
The alien passenger list of the Transylvania lists her occupation as a domestic worker.
One of these jobs appears to have been as a nanny for a well-to-do family in a New York suburb, but the position was eliminated due to economic difficulties caused by the Great Depression. As one account has put it, she "started life in America as a dirt-poor servant escaping the even worse poverty of her native land."
In the 1930s, while MacLeod was living with her sister in Queens, she met Fred Trump at a party; on a subsequent visit to Scotland she told her family that she had met her future husband.
Arriving in the U.S. with $50 (equivalent to $750 in 2018), MacLeod lived with her older sister Christina Matheson on Long Island and worked as a domestic servant for at least four years.
At the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, Macleod and Fred Trump got married in January 1936. The Rev Dr. George Buttrick officiated their wedding and at the Carlyle Hotel in Manhattan for 25 guests wedding reception was occupied. Macleod and Fred had total five children, namely Maryanne, Fredrick “Fred” Jr., Elizabeth, Donald and Robert Trump.
In 1981, her second child passed away before her father due to complicatedness of dipsomania. Macleod’s husband Fred Trump was affected by a disease called Alzheimer for six years. He passed away in 1999 due to the sickness of pneumonia after few weeks of his admission in New Hyde Park at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
In 2000, when Macleod was 88 years, she also died in New Hyde Park at the Long Island Jewish Medical Centre after a year of her husband death in the same Medical Centre. In a cemetery, next to her mother- and father-in-law, her husband and her son Fred C. Trump, Jr., Macleod was buried in New Hyde Park of New York.
She was generally a housewife but sometimes helped with her husband's real estate business, such as collecting coins from laundry machines in family-owned apartment buildings.
She also acted as a volunteer in a hospital and was involved in school activities and charities.[2] Those causes included betterment of those with cerebral palsy and efforts to improve the lives of intellectually disabled adults.
A 228-bed nursing home pavilion at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she spent years volunteering, is named solely for her.
On October 31, 1991, she was mugged while shopping on Union Turnpike near her home. She was thrown onto a sidewalk after her purse with $14 in it was taken. She sustained broken ribs, facial bruises, several fractures, a brain hemorrhage, and permanent damage to her sight and hearing. A delivery truck driver named Lawrence Herbert apprehended her 16-year-old assailant, for which he was later rewarded by Donald Trump with a check that kept him from losing his home to foreclosure.
Mary Anne's husband Fred Trump died at age 93 in June 1999. She died a year later on August 7, 2000 at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York, at age 88.
New York Military Academy. He graduated in 1964 when he was 18.
Below I will show pictures from the Military Academy along with other photos. The interesting part of Trump's history there is that he played sports like football, baseball, soccer, did wrestling and took part in many clubs. He was a leader across the board in many areas. Just check out how many varsity positions he held from the sources below.
In his 1997 book, “The Art of the Comeback,” Trump praised his mother—and indirectly criticized other women in his life. "Part of the problem I've had with women has been in having to compare them to my incredible mother, Mary Trump,” Trump wrote. “My mother is smart as hell." Trump named a room after his mother at Mar-a-Lago.

The Battle Hymn Of The Republic - Trump's Pre-Inauguration Jan 19th 2017
The "Battle Hymn of the Republic," also known as "Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory" outside of the United States, is a lyric by the abolitionist writer Julia Ward Howe
The song links the judgment of the wicked at the end of the age
Howe's more famous lyrics were written in November 1861 and first published in The Atlantic Monthly in February 1862.
Staying at the Willard Hotel in Washington on the night of November 18, 1861, Howe wrote the verses to the "Battle Hymn of the Republic
Howe stated,
I went to bed that night as usual, and slept, according to my wont, quite soundly. I awoke in the gray of the morning twilight; and as I lay waiting for the dawn, the long lines of the desired poem began to twine themselves in my mind. Having thought out all the stanzas, I said to myself, "I must get up and write these verses down, lest I fall asleep again and forget them." So, with a sudden effort, I sprang out of bed, and found in the dimness an old stump of a pencil which I remembered to have used the day before. I scrawled the verses almost without looking at the paper.
The sixth verse written by Howe, which is less commonly sung, was not published at that time. The song was also published as a broadside in 1863 by the Supervisory Committee for Recruiting Colored Regiments in Philadelphia.
Julia Ward Howe was married to Samuel Gridley Howe, the famed scholar in education of the blind. Samuel and Julia were also active leaders in anti-slavery politics and strong supporters of the Union.
She helped found the New England Women's Club and the New England Woman Suffrage Association.
Howe's original manuscript differed slightly from the published version. Most significantly, it included a final verse:
He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is Wisdom to the mighty, He is Succour to the brave,
So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of Time His slave,
Our God is marching on.
She was inspired to write "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" after she and her husband visited Washington, D.C., and met Abraham Lincoln at the White House in November 1861.
Interesting how the Battle Hymn of the Republic is reminiscent of these verses,
Revelation 14:14-19 King James Version (KJV)
14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.
15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
16 And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.
17 And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.
18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.
19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

Trump hosts a Fourth of July 'Salute to America' celebration
“Battle Hymn of the Republic,” had been a favorite of Robert Kennedy’s. He was not strongly associated with the song, however, until his death. During his funeral, on June 8, 1968, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, Andy Williams concluded the service by singing the anthem. After the first verse, those in the pews joined him.
As the funeral train traveled south from New York to Washington, D.C., mourners who had gathered alongside the train tracks sang the historic song as the procession passed by. In Baltimore, a crowd numbering 10,000, that “had been waiting for hours…spontaneously sent up stirringly in this ‘Battle Hymn of the Republic’” when the train arrived at the station.
The “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and its connection to RFK resurfaced two months later. At the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, considered “the most violent convention in [the Democrats’] history,” all the delegates “paused” to remember RFK’s death.
On August 30, Russell Baker of the New York Times reported that for half-an-hour the delegates “sat in the closest approximation to respectful silence they had managed all week” listening to the last surviving Kennedy brother, Teddy, and watching a memorial film about RFK.
After the video, every delegate rose for a five-minute standing ovation. Yet “this momentary glimpse of harmony induced by the memory of death” unraveled into “another display of tension” when chairman Carl Albert wanted to restore order and proceed with the convention’s business.
Delegates primarily from New York and California wanted to continue the demonstration for RFK and responded to Albert’s protests by singing “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Like the ovation, the song was “taken up all around the floor and through three sides of the four-sided gallery in a thunder of hand clapping and foot-stomping that drowned out” Albert’s furious gavel. It lasted for 20 minutes until Mayor Daley’s supporters shouted down the Kennedy supporters.
