The Ballad of a Test Pilot

In that starry infinity of timelessness,
there is something invaluable and profound,
mercifully untouched by man's selfishness,
so close to earth but lost in the background.

I was given wings faster than light,
to find the mystery of the universe.
I stopped to witness the endless night.
Watch time and space intersperse.

Earth again, after dropping from a star,
it seemed so small when I was in space,
a child among titans masquerading as a czar,
blissfully unaware of it's fall from grace.
