ESCAPE
Maigret was on his way to the murder site.
The mansion was near the psychiatric hospital. There had recently been a murder in the same way as Piquet. For what Maigret thought was a serial killer. In that psychiatric hospital, the bloodiest and most ferocious events that had been known had taken place. Everyone thought that it was an entity that committed them. Given the proximity of this new homicide with the psychiatric one, Maigret would investigate everything related to that room and discover the truth.
The place where the psychiatric was located was gloomy. Dark, with a stale smell, its moldy walls reminded the dungeons of ancient castles. Maigret went on his way and Susan, the director's secretary, told him to wait because Dr. Victor was giving his round to the patients.
With much suspicion, Susan, he left Inspector Maigret in the principal's office and asked him if he wanted a tea, to which the inspector said yes. Susan retired to prepare tea.
Maigret looked at the desk and could see that there were open envelopes, letters from the inmates and in one of them you could read:
"In the distance you hear the hallucinating cry of a huge gray bird, beat its huge black wings and with it sweeps everything around him. We were in a sordid, dark place, there was a sulfurous smell, the roads were crumbling, they took us like prisoners, I felt the acrid taste of the concoction that they made us drink every morning.
They woke us up every morning and dragged us like worms. Another day, another route, all dark. He, only he could escape, where would he be, what would he be doing at that moment we were all wondering ..."
At that moment the director and his secretary came in with a straitjacket ...
