It was a long and hot ride to the Pineapple Shades Recovery Center.

Meagan was not happy to be transferred abruptly from the hospital.

She was convinced by her mom to agree to go because the place was new and a recovery center.

Well, it wasn't really new. It had been a real hospital for kids that had been shut down over 20 years ago.

It was only open two weeks prior to Megan's arrival.

It was now a 8 billion dollar Recovery Center.

The building on the outside did not reflect this big money investment.

But inside was the best doctors, nurses and equipment.

The medical van pulled up to the hospital entrance.

Meagan was sweaty and a little musty from the ride.

It was no secret she needed some Secret deodarant.

The back doors opened with a pop!

The workers hurried to get her out of the van.

They were discussing which air freshener would do the job.

They agreed on Febreeze, but neither of them thought any product would work.

As Meagan was rolled in, she noticed three children playing on the elevator.

They got in by themselves, pushed the button and the door closed.

They all were about 3 or 4 years old!?

Meagan wondered where their parents were.

Megan was greeted by a young nurse who reminded her of a fairy.

She had a golden essence and a smooth calming voice.

"Hi Meagan, welcome" the nurse said.

"Thanks" Meagan said quietly.

The nurse led the way to Meagan's room.

Inside was a patient sleeping.

The nurse whispered the rest of time.

She told Meagan all she needed to know about the hospital.

But she did not tell her about the children of the night.

'She will find out soon enough". The nurse whispered to herself.

Meagan made herself happy by taking a long hot shower.

She had major surgery so she needed the nurses help.

She could not wait to get into bed. When she finally did she fell fast asleep.

During the night she could hear children playing.

In the morning she woke up to a piece of chocolate and a small toy car on her night stand.

Meagan ate that candy right away!
It was delectable.

She picked up the toy car.

First, she wondered where they it came from.

Eventually she started playing with the car.

Rolling it along the bed rails and turning it around.

She said "Vrroom!" Just a little too loud and woke up the other patient.

"Sshhh!!"

"Oops sorry". Meagan said apologetically.

"Ghost kids stop it now!!

"Ghost kids?
Haha, I don't believe in ghosts."

The patient was an old man. He was used to people not believing him. But he explained anyway

He sighed and explained.

"Yeah, well this hospital was a hospital for kids that burned down 20 years ago. Some kids are still here. "

Just then the nurse came in with Meagan's antibiotics.
The nurse saw the empty candy wrapper in the nightstand.

"Did you eat candy?!"
The nurse asked in anger. Her fairy essence went to Mommy mode.

Meagan looked at her confused and said
"Yes.." In a guilty voice.

"Don't let me catch you eating candy Meagan. You are on a strict diet for your own good. You want to recover and get outta here right?". The nurse asked sternly.

"Yes" said Meagan in a child like voice.

"Ok, well now lets agree to agree."

The nurse gave Megan her Meds and left.

Meagan turned to the patient and said
"The children bring me toys and chocolates"

The patient looked at her and said
"In town, we call them the Children of the Night"

Meagan could not explain the elevator kids or the kiddy gifts.

She was starting to believe in ghosts after all.

Every morning Meagan would wake up to chocolates under her pillow.
After two weeks Meagan became a believer in ghosts.

Meagan finally went home.

While restocking the room with medical supplies, the custodian found candy wrappers everywhere.

They were hidden in the drawers, cabinets, and pillow cases.

The custodian was furious and began cleaning up.

The custodian reached in his pocket and there was a piece of candy.

The custodian just smiled and said
"Those crazy kids!"
