My #ulog #4 : Busy with excitement!

I am always thrilled by the thought of going up the City of Pines and sunflowers. It’s where I was born and raised and had my college education. Perhaps, these explain why a part of me would always want to go back there. Actually, it’s just an hour and a half drive from my home town, Bauang, but I don’t have the luxury of time to go there whenever I please.

However, I saw a good reason to go up last May 18 when I attended the District Assembly of Rotary International held at Venus Hotel. It was a two day affair so I was doubly happy.
I woke up early and eagerly hit the road. Smiling inside, I said “Baguio City, here I come!” The weather was good and I had a safe and easy ride up. I was happy to arrive at the venue early and happier to get a good parking space - answered prayer. At least 400 delegates from different places were expected to arrive and so good parking space was a problem. It always feels good to see old familiar faces again.

The first day was all listening, learning and eating. Then the evening called for a fellowship night with a cowboy theme. A festive atmosphere was created with the singing, dancing, dining and laughters. It was indeed a night to remember.

The following day had me waking up earlier as I was excited to take a good walk around Burnham Park which is just across our hotel.

So all four in the room braced ourselves and headed out.

We were surprised to see several people - joggers, bikers, Zumba dancers and other health enthusiasts already heating up the area. We were not as early as we thought.

We had fun watching the movements around and the views as well. We had fun taking pictures of flowers and selfies too. And we really had fun just walking around.

Soon we ended up having breakfast at Jolibee, Legarda then back to the hotel. We were happy to have a good early exercise.

We were ready to face another day of activities. We listened to more speakers and we were reminded of Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self”. We were refreshed on why we needed to be more generous in our giving. Giving in terms of monetary and service. We were updated that there are three more countries who still suffer Polio that we need to address. We were reminded of our commitment in Rotary to make this world a better place.

The assembly was a success! We were ready to break out and go home. I told myself, “till next time, Baguio.”
