A good friend of mine who just became a medical doctor, asked me to join him and his crew for the world Hypertension day. was really excited I did. I learnt a lot of new things and I was excited, although I couldn't take pictures of myself lol cause I was looking really tired so I became their personal paparazzi πŸ˜‚ . Now let's talk about hypertension, what it is, how to control and manage it, people who are likely to have it e.t.c

WHAT IS HYPERTENSION?
Hypertension Is an abnormal high blood pressure, it is another name for high blood pressure. Blood pressure is the force exerted by the blood against the walls of the blood vessels . Medical guidelines define hypertension as a blood pressure higher than 130 over 80 millimeters of mercury (mmHg). Around 86million people in the United States have high blood pressure, so imagine how much people in the world has it. 1 in every 3 adults is living with hypertension 70% of the cases are undiagnosed. Check your blood pressure today!

NOTE:
1.Normal blood pressure is 120 over 80mmhg

  1. Acute causes of high blood pressure is due to stress.
  2. Lifestyle adjustments are the best way to address high blood pressure.

REDUCING /PREVENTING HIGH BP.

  • Regular health checksβ˜‘ are the best way to monitor your blood pressure.
  • Lifestyle adjustments are the standard first-line treatment for hypertension.
  • Stress reduction could never be overemphasized.
  • Regular physical exercise πŸƒ πŸƒ.

MEDICATIONS.
There are quite some drugs, injections πŸ’‰ in the medical field that help in the management of hypertension. Here are a few of them.

  • Beta-blockers and alpha blockers.
  • Central agonists
  • diuretics, which includes thiazides, chlorthalidone. Etc.

RISK FACTORS.
There are quite a number of factors that increases the chance of having hypertension, they include:

  1. Size and weight : being overweight or obese is a major risk factor.
  2. AGE: it is common for elderly people who are over 50 years of age.
  3. ETHNICITY: some ethnic groups are more prone to hypertension than the rest.
  4. SEX. The life time risk is the same for males and females, but men are more prone to hypertension at younger ages, while in females, happens when they are much older.

The theme for this years world hypertension day is "KNOW YOUR NUMBERS" πŸ”’!
I was happy seeing the aged people of the community coming to know their numbers and taking it serious. I learnt so much today that my head might soon explode with knowledge πŸ˜‚ lol. Our health is our wealth let's all remember that and do the needful. Let's work out πŸƒ, eat right, go for check ups and also inform the uninformed around us.
