Ingredients:
1 container of button mushrooms
1 cup of flour
1/4 cup of BEER
1 cup of Panko Bread crumbs
1 24 oz bottle of peanut oil
2 tablespoons of olive oil
salt and pepper
Horseradish Dipping Sauce
1 cup Ketchup
1/3 cup of Vegan Mayo
2 tablespoons of Mustard
1 tablespoon of prepared horse radish
1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
1 teaspoon of sugar
salt and pepper
Step 1
Wash the mushrooms well, because mushrooms are grown in a compost made of straw and horse manure, and horse manure is not very VEGAN. Nope not vegan at all, because the rule at #veganwednesday is NO DAIRY, NO MEAT and NO ANIMAL BYPRODUCTS!
(If you are not full on VEGAN go ahead and leave some the compost on them it won't hurt because we are going to fry these bad boys)
Pat dry
STEP 2
Cover the mushrooms with the olive oil. Nothing better than getting covered in olive oil.
Step 3
Put the flour, a little salt and pepper in a large mixing bowl.
Whisk beer into the flour until smooth. Batter should be a little more heavy than pancake batter. Beer is very very very VEGAN.
Drop the mushrooms, 3 or four at a time, into the beer batter covering the mushrooms completely. Did I mention that beer is really very Vegan? In fact, if I had to pick my favorite vegan food group I think it would be BEER.
Step 4
In a separate bowl, roll the beer battered mushrooms in the Panko Bread Crumbs.
And place on a plate.
Step 5
Put peanut oil in a skillet, 1-1 1/2 inches in depth and heat on low to medium heat until hot.
Step 6
Carefully, place the mushroom in the heated oil. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes. Check the mushroom to make sure they are not burning or sticking to the bottom. If all is well, replace lid and cook for another 2 minutes.
Remove the lid and turn the mushrooms over, continue to cook (without the lid) for another 5 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove mushrooms onto a plate with a paper towel to soak up the excess oil.
Serve with dipping sauce and Vegan CHEESE! Well its not really cheese but it kinda looks like cheese and tastes like cheese but it is definitely not CHEESE because that would break the rules and I am the last one to break any rules around here!
Dipping Sauce
It is easy peasy, in a small mixing bowl, mix the ingredients together. If it is too hot (like that would be possible) add a little mayo or ketchup. If not hot enough add some more horseradish!
Part of the contest is to tell what being a vegan means to me. Well . . . I am not a vegan. . . but I play one on Steemit. My wife on the other hand went full vegan a few months ago and now she GLOWS and is THINNER and her HAIR SHINES and all that other vegan stuff. I actually appreciate the changes she has made and quiet frankly she is much healthier for having done it. Quite frankly, being vegan is all "girly girly" to me but there is another side to the story. Mushrooms are manly!
If you have read this far I have a little insider tip about mushrooms. Mushrooms are great for men's health. Yup, the little fungi makes for a fun guy! I happen to be a man who is 50 something and well, this is hard to talk about but our bodies change. Everyone studies and talks about "THE CHANGE" for women in their 50's but no one talks about the changes in men. It is hormonal. As a man ages, the body produces less testosterone. Testosterone is a necessary ingredient for being A MAN! A lack of testosterone, means less muscle and more fat! The only way to combat this problem is by diet and exercise, who knew - right?
Since my favorite food group is BEER, that means I would need to run a marathon every other day, and lift weights for six hours in the gym on the days when I am not running a marathon just keep really HUGE BEER BELLY at bay. All the while risking death from a sudden heart attack on a weekly basis, not really a good plan (but my wife keeps suggesting it). Or perhaps, just perhaps there might be a few "cheater plants" that could give a brother a hand.
PRAISE GOD and TAP THE KEG, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts increase the production of TESTOSTERONE!!!!!!!
Now its just that exercise thing.
NOTHING IS MORE MANLY THAN BEER, FRIED MUSHROOMS AND HORSERADISH!!!!! TOP THAT IF YOU DARE!
CHEERS!
