How to make your drawing look realistic

Hello steemians, welcome to my blog once again. Today I'll be talking about the processes i undertook to achieve this drawing.

Materials used include:
White cardboard paper
Black ballpoint pen
2b pencil and
Eraser

First and foremost, I started by getting a reference photo. Since I love working with reference photos, I usually get one before I begin any drawing

This particular photo was gotten from a photographer friend on Instagram @ adedotvn; i choose this probably because I love children and she caught my attention cause of how she chewed at the hem of her cloth.
Thereafter, i proceeded to Making a light sketch of the child using my 2b pencil; this enables me make light sketches, guard against unnecessary errors, and practically erase any mistakes made during the sketching process. You can take a good look a the drawing to see the sketch from the unfinished work.
Talking about the actual drawing,

I used the cross-hatching method to make a realistic drawing of the hair and head in general by repeatedly double crossing my lines on areas with darker shades while reducing the intensity of my lines and tones on areas with lighter shades.

This was repeatedly done until the whole lookalike of the photo is achieved.

In conclusion, it is necessary to pay attention to the shades because it's what determines if the drawing takes up a 3D form or a flat 2D;

i hope you enjoy every bit of this.
