THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 25 - THREE TOED BOX TURTLE

These guys are another interesting species of Box Turtles.

The Three Toed Box Turtle (Terrapene carolina triunguis) is a very cool turtle. Like other Box Turtles, they have a hinged shell that they can hide inside of and close up tight, almost like a clam! The Three Toed Box Turtle shares its habitat with the Ornate Box Turtle here in Arkansas.

In the Ozarks, you can sometimes find them everywhere. They will roam across fields and through the woods, so @papa-pepper always likes to keep an eye out. After having to jump into so many lakes, rivers, ponds, and swamps up in Wisconsin to locate and capture turtles, it's a nice change of pace to be able to just take a casual stroll through the woods and find a turtle.

This little one looks like it hatched earlier this year. At first, their shells are still soft, and they harden over time. The size and softness of these little ones make them a very easy meal for many predators. As is the case with many species of reptiles, the majority of the young do not make it into adulthood.

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from this source.
