Witness Update Report #4
We are pleased to report that we have climbed up to rank 55 on the Steemit Witness list, and active rank 51. This is so exciting for us, as this means we have almost reached the Top Fifty. Our new server is running like a dream. It has not missed any blocks and the price feed is working well.
Please take a moment to read our Witness Proposal, and if you support the same fundamentals and vision as we do for the future of the Steemit community, please consider voting for us as witness here.
ADSactly Education :
We have decided that as part of our weekly Witness Report post, we will be choosing different technical topics to discuss.
Please feel free to request a topic in the comment section.
Blockchain Consensus Algorithms
This is a very simplified way to explain the differents types of algorithms or proofs that one can encounter.
Imagine that you want to send a letter to a friend. You write the name of your friend on a scrap of paper, their address and put this letter into a mailbox. As time passes, other peoples fill the mailbox with their letters. Once full, it is transferred to a mail sorting center.
Proof of Work (POW)
POW is the algorithm currently used by Bitcoin.
In POW, the mailbox is unbreakable and can only be opened with a digital code, but nobody knows it. The only way is to guess it. Anybody is free to join the mail sorting center to solve the code and the first to discover it is rewarded with money plus the fees to transfer the letters.
Proof of Stake (POS)
POS is different. This time, the mail sorting center is managed by different people who have invested money into it. One of the managers is randomly chosen to open the mailbox and transfer the letters; this time, the transfer fees are the only reward.
Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS)
DPoS is the algorithm currently used by STEEM.
DPoS is similar to POS, but this time the mail sorting center managers are not chosen because they have invested money in it, but because the mailbox's users have voted for them. They are called Witnesses.
ADSactly
We are often asked, "What is ADSactly All About?"
Our core idea or fundamental value is rather simple - voluntary cooperation. Each member contributes their time, skills and ideas freely. With a large membership like ours, there are many skills to draw from when planning a project. Many good ideas have grown into great projects within our society. ADSactly doesn't create projects, but rather serves as a platform on which our members can interact, finding exactly the skills and people needed for their specific project.
We welcome you to join the society, meet people, talk to people, make friends and establish fair relations with other ADSactly members. You will receive ADSactly community units just for showing up and taking part in our voice hangouts, for helping out with promotions, for helping new members feel welcomed, showing them around and helping them get familiar with the society, for finding new projects that might catch interest of other members. Sometimes even for being generally a good person willing to help others.
