My fellow Steemians,
Welcome to my weekly witness update. This is something I do every Friday as some other witnesses do too. Hopefully, this will keep my followers and the community up-to-date with what I've been up to. Ultimately, I hope I may gain your witness approval vote.
Had a Steem Power giveaway! In total, there were 96 participants and I had split 300 SP among them. For participation, I had them answer what Steemit is to them and to set a profile picture if they don't already have one, which incentivizes them to explore the profile settings. There were many great responses and I am considering doing such giveaways monthly on the first from now on.
Restarted my dedicated witness node. I've been running my witness since September now and had almost no missed blocks for months on end. That is, until during the month of January, for some reason, would get random misses a few times a week. This was a bit disappointing, because I had went super overboard on the server's specs making it quite costly to sustain every month, and so I expected better performance. I decided to see if restarting would help, as when I saw the uptime, it was over 130 days of continuous operation! It's been running with 0 missed blocks since restarting, so it seems to have fixed it! Haha!
Incidentally, my VPS provider had notified me of a server fault on my seed node, and I had to force restart it. As I was running steemd with the shared file in RAM at /dev/shm, everything was gone on restart! I had to do a resync after a replay didn't work due to an unclean shutdown. This took quite the time but would be slower if I had put the shared file location on disk, as VPS's seem to throttle disk IO. It's currently back in operation.
Continuing to work on Steemit.com code changes. I hope to have something up soon for changes to the Welcome page.
Adjusted my SBD interest rate to 3%. I had it too high for a long while now and this seems about right for current conditions. Price discount is still set to 2% and registration fee persists at 30 STEEM.
What a week!
We got a few UI changes on Steemit as announced by @steemitblog at Steemit.com UI Release 0.1.170201!
In addition, we also got the official public beta release of Busy.org on the first of the month! Now, Steemians can try out a different web interface to see if it better matches their taste than Steemit. See the post at Busy Official Public BETA Release: Release note, Known issues, What's next ?.
The @asshole account finally give up his flagging-for-no-reason crusade shortly after the way how flagging is displayed on Steemit was changed.
Congrats to @timcliff for reaching a top 50 spot in the witness list! He is quite the supporter of this community and really deserves your consideration!
Also congrats to @good-karma for reaching a top 19 spot not long ago. His various community apps like eSteem are fantastic to use!
Finally, thanks to everyone who have voted for me as witness. I am currently at rank 33! Thanks to all who support me and like what I do. It is all very much appreciated!
