Pharesim is a developer, working mostly in web-related languages such as “PHP and Javascript, but also Python, Java and Go.” He has also developed piston scripts for witness applications and voting bot scripts for Steemit.
Pharesim’s highest profile project is probably SteemDice, which is operated under @Steemdice1. Steemdice is a “provably fair”, simple dice rolling game that allows you to gamble Steem or SBD with a narrow house edge. As someone who prefers to never gamble without a +EV edge, it’s not something that I can speak to personally, but I have read reports of others users running the game who were satisfied with the operation and payouts.
Pharesim is one of the key developers behind the PEVO project, which he describes as: “a decentralized long-term digital archive for scholarly publishing.“ It’s a very interesting idea, a sort of “Svalbard Global Seed Vault”, but for scholarly journals.
There are many clear advantages to decentralization for scholarly works. Most notably, in this author’s opinion, the resistance to censorship it provides, which is not unlike Steemit.
Furthermore, a more widely distributed scholarly network increases the chances that outside ideas will be considered and heard, and provides options for the anonymization of some work when necessary.
Pharesim holds 576,000 SP and is currently powering down.
