Meet The Writers' Block Crew

Numbers have been steadily growing at the Writer’s Block, and while everyone on the team works hard to keep up with new arrivals, it’s not always that easy. Having people in different time zones makes it even harder, and not every member has the chance to get to know the team of mods and editors that is responsible for our warm and welcoming online habitat.

To help our newer members get acquainted with the regular crew, we are starting a "Meet The Writers' Block Crew" series. Our first mod to meet is, of course, @GMuxx, one of our admins and the builder of our server. We lovingly think of him as our online Dad, and he is always ready with friendly words, encouragement and his very own special brand of humour. And did I mention the accent?

The members of the Writer’s Block all stuck their heads together and asked the one and only @GMuxx all the burning questions they always wanted to ask him.

Muxxy was prepared for them. Are you?

GMuxx, how do you do it? How do you deal with all the craziness, stay awake insane hours, yet always seem so positive in chat?

Due to ill health I have lots of time to dedicate to Steemit and to Discord. I strongly believe in the platform and in our mission at The Writers' Block. I keep a positive mental attitude as otherwise it would be a detriment to my health.

How long have you been involved with Steemit?

I joined in May of this year.

How did you find out about Steemit?

I was watching an alternative media personality on Youtube discussing their account being demonetised. They were seeking other sources of revenue and briefly mentioned Steemit. Having never heard of it I investigated and joined up the same day.

Who are your favorite authors?

J.R.R. Tolkien, Douglas Adams, Robert Jordan, Terry Pratchett, Terry Goodkind, Anne McCaffrey, Tad Williams.

Do you have time to do any writing of your own?

Recently, no. Since setting up The Writers' Block, going to Steemfest this year and running my Muxxybot Curation account, I have little time for writing, sadly.

If you could name one book that influenced how you look at the world, what would it be?

Otherland: City of Golden Shadow by Tad Williams. Opened my mind to the possibilities of Virtual / altered reality and the inherent dangers of the technology.

Boxers or briefs?

It depends on the weather.

When you were younger, what job did you dream of having as an adult?

I wanted to be a zoo keeper and look after animals, monkeys and apes in particular.

What was the hardest life lesson you had to learn?

Family, you can count on, friends not so much.

Do you have a certain environment you prefer to write in? (with music, quiet, in a coffee shop..etc.?)

I have to have absolute silence to concentrate. I write in my office.

Mango or pineapple?

Why not both?

Who would you most like to see win in a fight: a penguin with an eyepatch and a rapier or a walrus with a fez and a pair of dueling pistols and why?

First, I would like to know the reason for the dispute. Secondly, if the fight is inevitable, I would have to choose the penguin with an eye patch and a rapier. Neither animal would be able to wield such weapons, so feel the penguin's agility affords it more of an advantage.

What is your best advice for newcomers to The Writing Block?

Get to know us, ask questions and discover how we work. Never EVER drop a link in a channel unless asked to do so by a moderator. Have fun, be polite and don't feel compelled to wear pants.

How much time do you spend on Steemit and Discord in a day?

Typically 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.

@GMuxx, the Writer's Block thanks you for your cooperation.
