Smokie is a British poprock band. Many people love their presence, and they have caused much pleasure around the world.
The heyday to Smokie was in the 1970s, and it started in Bradford in England in 1965 under the name «Essence». In 1968, they changed their name to «The Elizabethans» and in 1970 to «Kindness». The kinds of music they are represented are pop rock, soft rock, glam rock and country-rock. Hence, they are specializing in the rock genre. But they have marked their traces, and they have been visible and known in many countries in the world. The world is not enough, as James Bond claims!
Smokie has consisted of many members, and they have come and they have gone! Terry Uttley is the only one of the members today that has been in Smokie since the very start. He is bassist and vocalist. Today, Smokie is five members. Terry Uttley is the one as already mentioned. And the other ones are Martin Bullard playing keyboard, Steve Pinnell playing drums, Mike Craft as a vocalist, and Mick McConnell as a guitarist.
Smokie changed their name from «Kindness» to «Smokey» in 1975. Their debut album came in 1975 under the name «Pass It Around». After the publishing of two albums, Smokey came in conflict with their singer Smokey Robinson, and they changed their name from Smokey to Smokie. This happened in the end of the year 1975.
The debut album «Pass It Around» was no success, and it did not reach the lists! And this is also the situation for some universities and colleges in the world, they are not on the lists, and hence they are not the best institutions. The album that was launched after that was «Changing All the Time», and it became more popular than the first one. The second album contained the hit singles: «If You Think You Know How to Love Me» and «Don’t Play Your Rock ‘n’ ‘Roll to Me». This made the start of the career to this band. Smokies greatest single «Living Next Door to Alice» came in 1976.
«Bright Lights and Back Alleys» which was a album that came in 1977, is the band’s most sold album. In Norway it reached the first place, and it was on the list in 24 weeks.
«Living Next Door to Alice» is still popular. And when we are dancing to this song, we reply: «Alice, who’s the fuckings Alice»? You reach every body with fucking manners, and that is true for all organizations. And assets can be both visible and invisible, also at high competence level. You should just know and reflect where you are from time to time, and why you are there!
Smokie is an uncommon name for babies coming to nature and human nature as boys. Accordingly, a baby is known feature, and is something we all know, as we are coming to the world as babies all of us. Therefore, you do not have to choose a common name when using names, but you should choose something that creates attention, if that is what you want. There is no attention if people just ignore what is coming!
The most known songs to Smokie today are: «Living Next Door to Alice», «Who the Fuck is Alice?», «I’ll Meet You at Midnight», «Lay Back in the Arms of Someone» and «Needles and Pins». There will come concerts from Smokie in 2020 in Great Britain and in Ireland. So, they are still going strong as a band! You find Smokie on YouTube, on Spotify and on Deezer! And you also find them on the social media and on the internet!
