We do not know exactly why we are sleeping. We cannot be awake 24 hours a day, because we are tired. Both animals and humans are sleeping, and the need is different for all animals, and also between different humans. We are sleeping individually!
The python needs 15 hours a day with sleeping, and the giraffe needs 2 hours. The man or woman gets sick too little sleep.
The distribution of sleep in different age groups varies in the population. Children need at least 9 hours sleeping during a day. The youths need 8 to 9 hours to sleep within a day. And the adults and the older people need 7,5 hours to 8 hours a day with sleeping. How long we are sleeping differ within the groups already mentioned, and also between the groups. The sleeping is determined individually. And we know little about why we are sleeping, but we need to sleep!
Sleep is like a series of high mountain peaks and deep valleys. The depth is how deep we sleep, and this type of sleep cannot be reduced, you are forced to have it during a day! Sleep on the peaks becomes rem-sleep. Rem is standing for Rapid Eye Movement. This is the sleep when our dreams are present, and the eyes are moving when we are sleeping this type of sleep! But what are our dreams? What are we dreaming about, and why is it such? Maybe, experiences in life can explain something, and also what we have done during the last days. The rem-sleep can be reduced to zero minutes and zero seconds, and we do not need this type of sleep!
Why we sleep is a mystery, and there are many theories about it. Many doctors believe that we sleep to wash away harmful metabolic products from our brain! The sleep is vital as food and exercise also is! We sleep because the brain has to work well. When we are tired, we will automatically fall asleep! As animals and as humans, we can sleep too much or too little. If we are sleeping too much, we get too much fragmented sleep. The mountain range becomes more divided. If we are sleeping too little, we get reduced concentration and reduced reaction time!
The children are sleeping because they are developing themselves very quickly! The children need to sleep to get good memory, cell repair and energy saving.
Many professionals believe that we sleep to rest our muscles, not to be grumpy, and to concentrate our awareness of what we like, and around what we want! But there are many myths and speculations about why we are sleeping. In the Bible, it stands that God let Adam come into a deep sleep. And maybe we have to sleep because we fell in the fall! A lot of pleasurable research needs to be done here!
