The radio gives us voices and messages and music. Today, we find many radio channels in various countries, and that gives meaning and pleasure to many people!
The word «radio» comes from the Latin word «radius» meaning a beam. It is a beam with noises. And just the creativity and you feeling determine how the radio programs are made, and what you take into a program and what you exclude from the program.
The radio was the first mass medium in our history. The idea implied that one could send radio waves to a receiver having a radio, and that radio could be used in different countries. The radio was a desired and dear medium from anyone. One could use the radio on travels and at home, and hence many loved the radios presence. Today, we have several mass medium, also the television. But the the radio became something close and something familiar. And therefore, you could use it at the cottage, at home, at the beach, and in every place where you feel convenience and comfort!
The person who invented the radio is uncertain when it comes to facts, but we mean that Nathan Stubblefield was the first person that made a radio. There are disagreements about whether the communication technology he made could be classified as «a radio», and if his first demonstrations in 1902 could be called for the first «radio broadcasts». In the beginning, the radio signals could just been sent in short distances, but the technology has developed much, and today you can use short and long distances, but not all conceivable distances. There are restrictions where for instance you get the radio signals in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland. You cannot include these signals everywhere, but in future there will be better radios, and also better technology with network signals. Today, we have the travel radio, the DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) radio, and also other radios for many more purposes, also in the offices.
The life and its environments are present every place in the world, and all studies are also some variants of these things. The radio can be used in life and in different environments, and you can use it with all its channels according to your wishes, and in relation to whether you are alone, or whether you are together with other people!
The radio is a medium, where one needs a source or a sender, some messages, and many receivers. You can determine for yourself whether you will listen to the radio, and you can determine what you want to hear according to your interests and your wishes.
The first radio channels we got in Norway were in the 1920s, and in 1933 the parliament in Norway determined that the radio channels should be included in a company that was state own, and it was a monopoly. Since, the start we have had a liberal development, and today you find several radio channels and several radio companies in Norway. And nowadays, you find the same liberal development as in Norway.
The radio has a free message, and it can be broadcast through many ways today. You get it in the radio, in the mobile phone, in podcast and maybe also in other medium. The radio is often controlled during a war, for instance also a world war, and sometimes some want to have the control of what is sent, and whether people and organizations have the availability to use the radio.
The radio has come to be. And there are many persons around the world that are using this idea. And there will still be more development on it in future, and we still see new developments in press, in the media channels, in organizations and in the people’s heads. You and me are always important in forming the communcation technology, and many persons have their opinions about what we have, and what can be done! We can also work inside the radio stations, and it is exciting and funny.
