Creative Writing Challenge: Task #5: Lost Memories - The Blitz

The Blitz

Excerpt of A Diary

Sept 22
The beach feels like such a long time ago ever since the shelling began. Viv, Marion, and I were so happy that month at the shores. Never did we concern ourselves with the war and world outside that beach. It's amazing how things change and how often it is for the worse.

Sept 23
Father left yesterday for the post to deliver and did not return last night. Mother sent Thomas to ask the post if they could find him but they refused to help. Mother did not take the news well and we had to call the Doctor to check on her. He prescribed her some calming medication and told her to rest, try not to think about Father and that he will return soon. I don't think Mother believed him.

Sept 24
Charles went to the shop today to get some cans of milk and when he got home he told us about the shop owner. He said the blitz is going to go on for another few months. I guess he has a friend who has an uncle who knows about the plans. I don't think he is right. The Nazis can only bomb us so long, what will they do, confiscate silverware for ammunition?

Sept 28
The bombs have not fallen for two days. Father returned home last night with his arm bandaged. He won't tell us where he was or what happened. This morning Mother began packing boxes then Father told us to pack our belongings in to our bags and be prepared to leave. He had found a man with a small boat that is taking us to the mainland, hopefully we make it to The Hague. I don't know when we will leave but I hope it is soon.

Sept 29
Mother found the picture while packing. She said it is the only remaining picture of the old family in the old country and most of them are no longer living. She pointed out and named each of them but I only recognized her parents. The building they were in front of was the Great Hall, but it was destroyed in the first War. The bombing started again this morning and are getting closer this time. Father left this morning for the docks to pay for our boat ride, but when he returned he told us of the destruction. The docks were all destroyed in the bombing and most of the boats sank in the harbor.

This is my entry to the Creative Writing Challenge: Task #5: Lost Memories put on by @steemfluencer. The details of the challenge are:

Take a look at the pictures below. You wouldn't believe it, but what you are seeing is something I have spotted on the street >next to the rubbish container. Initially I just passed. I was astonished 'how one could throw his memories?' Then I was >suddenly stricken by the idea... what if... then just got back, grabbed them and here they are.

It's not that I regularly examine rubbish containers. Just have in mind guys that I try you provide you with authentic sources >of inspiration.

So:

Your task is to write a story that connects the two images.

Apply the retrospective approach to the story or surprise everyone with your own interpretation.

Again, no boundaries. The options you have are literally countless and you know that better than me.
The discovery of the images itself is already a real story and I won't be surprised if someday somebody will recognize his or >her great grand parents in these photos here on Steemit.
