Creative Writing Challenge - Task #2 - Razzia

Razzia

The full moon was high on the sky, bright enough for the stars to be almost insignificant in comparison, the wet sand reflecting its light.

It was such a beautiful place to be, the waves crashed lightly on the shore, the sound giving us peace. We took in the gorgeous feeling of it for a while, maybe a bit of the peace we needed, with a weird sense of awareness. Every muscle, every nerve in my body, I thought I felt it all, and I think she felt it too.

We were startled by this feelings and got carried away, but knew we should get going to the razzia. We looked at each other, and as I saw her eyes, I saw all the things our future might have become, if we ever were together.

A lightning struck behind the mountain nearby, but I felt it as if it went through my body, from head to toes, and stirred easily.
“We really should get going”, the magical atmosphere was suddenly nowhere to be seen, replaced with an almost tangible awkwardness.

We went on, climbing the small side of the mountain, then walking the path ahead. It wasn’t that troublesome once in the path, but we knew there was a long way to the razzia yet.

The razzia was some sort of roman temple in the top of the mountain, near the highest cliff of it. The moon light entered the chapel through a hole in one of its walls, lightning the room.

Supposedly, Diana’s power shall fall on all virgins who came to the temple on a full moon, they would promise to be forever pure and the Goddess would give them her blessing, eternal youth, strength, huntress skills and stuff like that.

It was my job, among other town boys, to take the girls there, protect them during the way, but I was the one taking this girl I always loved, and I was heartbroken.

I tried to tell her, but when we were about to get to the entrance of the small shrine, I halted. She looked at me, wondering, and I wished her luck.

She smiled softly and went inside of the shrine. Maybe if I had told her, she wouldn’t be doing this.

For the people on our village it was a huge honor to send their girls here, as they would forever protect their tribe and family. Taking that honor away from her, or simply being in the way, I would have felt it to be a bit selfish of me, so I didn’t dare.

I sat down and cried silently.

Suddenly, a small hand, the softest hand in the world, touched my shoulder.

I couldn’t stop crying, but when I saw her, she was still smiling. How long has it been? She was supposed to be there for an hour or two.

“I couldn’t do it” she told me.

She hugged me and help me stand up, we left the razzia in silence, the moon our only company.

All the future I pictured was in front of us now.

Everything would be fine.

I picked the world Razzia from an online dictionary, dunno which one now. Still don't know what it means (/w\ )
I'm in the process of moving out, currently I don't own a dictionary, and certainly if I did, it wouldn't be easy to pick a word in spanish then translate it to english and not finding out its meaning beforehand, that's why I sticked to online dictionaries.
