Creative Writing Challenge - Task #3 - Our new home

Our new Home

“Would there be dragons?” I asked.

“Oh, well, I don’t really think so” my mum laughed softly “But we might get lucky, don’t we?”

I was dumbstruck by her answer. I put away my game and got comfier on the leather seat. I closed my eyes deep in thoughts.

My dreams started playing behind my eyelids, my brain working hard to make my fantasies look more vivid than life itself.

Suddeny, I was a warrior on a horse, chasing fairies trough the forests of the green land I was on. Climbing the mountains so high, I could see the whole world down my feet.

Wild horses ran through the fields, waiting for me to tame them someday, to come with me on all my adventures.

With my sword I could fight giants and dragons to take their treasures away. I could save that world, I knew. The darkest of monsters would be nothing against my sword!

But… I was suddenly frightened. How was I going to beat all the evil in the world? I also needed to sleep, I loved naps. I loved playing around, and calling my cousins, and I loved to eat pies at my grandma’s and…

I suddenly missed everything in my life.

I started crying.

My mum was really scared, “Honey, why are you so upset?” she asked.

And I remember telling her “I wanna go back!”

She was so understanding, and probably so used to my daydreaming, she told me to close my eyes again, for she was going to tell me a story.

“You know what I see when I close my eyes?

... I see you, dad and me. A small house, nothing too big, bot cozy, warm. A home, you know? I picture dad and me working hard, but not that much, and bringing apple pie home every day. I see you going to a good school, and being a smart kid as always. I know grandma will come someday, too.

But what I like the most is that… we’re no longer going to be afraid, babe. We are going to be happy.”

That’s what my mum was telling me about right before the plane landed here.

In our new home.

We’re going to be happy, for sure.
