Zen Koan

Once upon a time, there was a monk who lived outside a village.

A thief heard about the monk, and, thinking him to be rich, entered the monk's hut one night, when the monk was out.

He found the hut empty, an as he was looking around, the monk returned.

I am so sorry that you came all this way for nothing, here accept my robe and bowl.
Said the monk, giving the thief his robe and begging bowl.

The thief, confused by this, took the things and run away into the night.

Gazing at the full moon illuminating the scene, the monk reflected:

That poor fellow!

How I wish I could have given him this beautiful moon!
