Austin's Baseball Disappearing Nine Patch Quilt On the Day of His Birth - Make it Monday by A Panama Mama

Seven years ago, @panamapilgrim's sister had a baby boy and he received a quilt on his birth date. We knew he was going to be a boy and his parents are really into baseball, so I made it with a vintage baseball fabric. I did my favorite design, a disappearing nine patch, but with much larger squares. I love the way it turned out. Perfect for a little boy!

The back of the quilt was large scraps of fabric that I had left over. For some reason, the recipients usually like the back more than the front. That is what his mom told me was her favorite. I spend way more time on the front and just throw the backs together!

I used free motion quilting on this quilt. At this point, I was pretty good at it and it seemed the fastest and easiest way to finish most of the quilts.

I also had enough fabric left over to make him a little pillow for his bed (in the future). It was just strips of fabric sewn together and then with a pillow inside. It turned out cute though!

I added a special extra thing that I had just figured out I could do with my embroidery machine. I put his name, appliqued a heart and my name on the back corner of the quilt. Here is the little man receiving his quilt on the day he was born.

They said that he used it as a play mat for a little while and also had it as a blanket. It is always nice to hear that someone is using the gift you have made for them!
