8th ARTstyleART Challenge: My Painting of St. Basil's Cathedral, Moscow

I have been quiet here on Steemit for the past few days. I still read posts, upvoted and commented whenever I could. See, I had been busy chasing the dateline for #artstyleart8. The theme for this week's challenge is FUTURISM + MOSCOW (or RUSSIA). You can read the original post by @aksinya here. WOW. I have heard of Futurism before but I never draw anything in this style before. Could I do this? To be honest I was a bit apprehensive. This was my first time participating in art challenge on Steemit and the time frame given was less than a week (the theme was announced on Tuesday and the submission dateline is on Sunday). Also I was (still) not feeling very well and my husband was out of town for several days. I feared that with my daily responsibilities I would not be able to complete it on time. However, I decided to throw caution to the wind and participated! And boy it was a challenge indeed! I researched a bit about Futurism and also googled some Russian landscapes and famous landmarks for inspiration. I decided to draw St Basil Cathedral because well...it was the obvious thing to do LOL.

After I selected my subject matter, off I went to my drawing board. I decided to paint on a piece of mixed media paper, A3 size. Initially I wanted to use watercolors but changed my mind. I thought acrylic paints, colored pencils and markers would be more appropriate for this theme. (My category would be Painting: mixed media (acrylic, colored pencils and markers)). Below are my work-in-progress photos and a photo of the completed painting at the bottom.

The first image was of the rough sketch of the painting. As a coloring book artist I have the habit of adding too many details to my drawings. Drawing this was full of fun and I got carried away a bit on the details. I posted this image on Facebook and a fellow coloring book artist pointed out that this would make a great coloring page. Hmmm....honestly I wasn't thinking of that. My mind was so fixed on getting this painting completed that it didn't even cross my mind to scan and make it into a coloring page. So my question, if I recreate this page as a coloring page would anyone interested to color it? You can leave your comments below. If anyone interested I would go ahead and recreate it and maybe offer it as a free download for a limited time?

I painted the sky and surrounding areas in acrylic.

I decided to outline the cathedral in marker to make it pop out. I hope it works.

The cathedral was colored using Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils.

...and it's completed! I hope I have done justice to the theme. If I don't win anything that is okay. I truly enjoyed the learning process and I hope to participate again in future art challenges.
