Diary of an independent film maker Part 4 /// Filming Locations for The Juju Gum Conspiracy

As I hope you know by now @vachemorte and I will be releasing our film as a series on Steemit on January 8th. This is part 4 of my blog series where I talk about location scouting!

After the script, casting, and props were done we needed to scout and finalize locations for shooting. Our budget was tight as hell so we needed to find free or cheap places to shoot. Luckily we have a lot of friends with interesting studios/property so we called in some favours!

The first location we decided on would be the headquarters for SOFIE in the film. This building is the workshop of our friend Dan who is an inventor/physicist/metalworker/genius. He also had a small cameo! It's located in the old port of Montreal surrounded by what used to be grain silos.

Here are a few shots of this place from the film:

Here's Dan!

Next up we called on our ex-landlord John Doak from our docu-series MACHINECO. John owns a ton of cool properties and told us we could film in any of them if we needed to. We met up with him to check out a few buildings. We have a bit of a surprise for you, we asked John to do a small cameo as a landlord and he appears in episode 1 (and maybe more?). His glasses were broken and his face looked a little beat up. Well this is how it happened during our visit:

Yep, he kicked the door in and took a tumble, ironically enough @vachemorte had just remarked to him that this was the first time his glasses weren't broken in the 15 years we've known him. That didn't last long.

For the filming location we ended up choosing this buiding on the far right which used to be horse stables. We rented a loft for a few years in the red brick building in the middle!

Here are a few shots of the inside, this place was pretty sketchy the roof had holes and the floor felt squishy like it was going to cave in at any moment:

A few shots from the film:

This place had a ton of awesome grafitti and due to the roof being all broken had some really cool lighting!

We shot at a ton of locations but the last one I'll show you is Complexe Dompark. We filmed in multiple places inside and even a bit outside this building.

A few shots from the film:

We will be releasing the film as a web series here on Steemit starting January 8 2018 over at @vachemorte! See our latest teaser here!

Join me next week for part 5!
