"Pirate's Helm" | Gallery: Motifs

Aarrr me mateys! Sail, ho! I bring t'ye, this Monday eve, another Mandala! Fresh from the deeps! Yarrrr!

Did you know there are English to Pirate translators? lol... Now you do!

Anyway, I'm soooo incredibly happy with this week's mandala... Doesn't that look just like a helm of a ship? =)

And the first person to tell me why a pirate probably would never have had this design made for his ship will get the high res. image sent to them =)

““Merchant and pirate were for a long period one and the same person. Even today mercantile morality is really nothing but a refinement of piratical morality.”

-- Friedrich Nietzsche

The creation process:

This time, I wanted to change it up a bit. So for the first time since "Raizul", I decided to change the formulae I use (the second and third tabs):

At first, I was a bit disheartened because I wasn't getting much with the new formulae... A lot of static and useless bulky shapes. But I persevered and it payed off... Eventually I found proper mandala-y shapes.

The fourth image put me in mind of a compass and got me thinking of ships and pirates:

It was only when I rendered the preview that I discovered the ship's helm! And the colours were great too, after loading a sunset image for the diffuse map. Just a bit of tweaking and it was perfect.

If only all my creative processes flowed so beautifully.
