Art Attack! #104: A Very Normal Simp, I mean Shrimp? 🦐

Hey Steemit!

We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!

So the past few weeks I've been sharing about my streaming journey on Twitch and I was lucky enough to get affiliated in just under a month thanks to our super awesome and supportive community! Affiliates get to earn money from Twitch through viewer subscriptions, ad revenue and the like, and subscribers get benefits such as an ad-free viewing experience but also access to unique emotes from the channel! So I started getting to work on said emotes.

The next one I worked on was an angry expression for those classic rage gaming moments. This seemed crucial for how much I rage on-stream so it was pretty much a no-brainer. But I did want to have a anger symbol like in anime and some fire in the eyes and this was what I came up with:

The fire brush actually turned out really well and I think the angry expression is quite legitimate.

And here's the timelapse:

Another one I worked on was this one that was supposed to be like a simp emote. If you're not familiar with the term this was the definition from dictionary.com It's kind of an insult for men who are supposedly nice to women to get favour with them.

But as Twitch has banned the use of simp on its platform to prevent harassment, everyone has been using codewords to mean the same thing so we've been saying shrimp instead of simp. But of course we don't use it in a derogatory sense regardless. It's just a way to say it without violating TOS.

So obviously this inspired me to create a Shrimp emote, which I have since placed in the tier 3 slot since you know, it seemed the most appropriate slot for a Shrimp emote since no one ever subs with tier 3 and also I didn't want anyone using it to insult others.

For this one I wanted my Tacocat avatar to be in a shrimp outfit, kinda like a hat I've seen irl. And I also wanted the facial expression to be like an ahegao of course, since it's a simp emote. I tried my best to make it as accurate as possible and I even added drool but then Twitch said nope to drool so I had to remove it and re-upload it.

Thankfully they approved it without the drool and I'm glad my chat liked it too although no one can really use it. Everyone asked me to put it on tier 1 instead but I know they'll just use it against me so I left it tier 3. Maybe next time when I rearrange my emotes I'll put this on tier 1 but then I'll need to find a suitable replacement at tier 3 and I don't have any ideas atm. We'll see.

Anyway, here's the timelapse:

I actually worked on these off-stream to surprise my chat but I do art streams every Tuesday on my Twitch channel, where we play art games or just chat while I'm finishing up some art, live! Feel free to come by and chat or play with us!

Thanks so much for reading!
