Art Attack! #94: Happily Ever After Potion 🌟

Hey Steemit!

We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!

So if you caught my last post, you would've seen the super special art piece I drew for Sean for our first wedding anniversary earlier this year!

This was actually a recreation of how he proposed to me in Terraria! He had written a whole Choose Your Adventure book and it ended with us in a custom world he created with those words of course. It was super sweet so I just had to recreate it for our anniversary!

But in the process of doing that, I had some trouble drawing the glass dome effect that I wanted to pull off. I looked up Google for references and they all looked so complicated and too detailed and I just wanted something simple. Luckily, one of my favourite procreate artists on Youtube - Art with Flo had just the thing!

I've written about her channel before, but she does amazing tutorial videos and she also has a series called You Can Draw This where she draws and teaches you step-by-step! She even has the colour palette that she's using in the description and uses the default brushes or she'll give them to you for free as well.

So I wanted something simple for my heart-shaped glass dome reflection and I came across the perfect video! Turns out Flo has done a magic potion piece and it looked just like what I wanted and a similar-ish shape too!

This video is pretty long compared to the last one I did with her, but just like the previous one it's really easy to follow, and while it takes some time the result was worth it!

I loved how deceptively simple this looks, but when you look at the cork and the top of the bottle there's quite a few details there and the texture too! I also really loved the colours and the whole lighting effect. Everything looked so cool and while it took some time it was definitely worth it because this piece came out so well! She has the perfect blend of simple and realistic and although the details were a bit much at times, It was actually pretty fun!

And here's my timelapse:

At first when I saw this piece I was like hell nah my art wasn't going to come out that good, but I'm really surprised with how well this piece turned out! This was still some of the early pieces I drew in Procreate so I was pretty proud of it even though it was still following a tutorial.

This bottle actually reminded me a lot of the magic love potion in Shrek 2! I'm not sure how many people remember it but it also had a similar blue glow just like this one!

Again, if you also use Procreate I highly recommend checking out Art with Flo on Youtube! She has tons of helpful tips and tricks and also over 100 You Can Draw This videos! If you're ever stuck in a rut or feel like drawing without the pressure, definitely give one of her videos a try! It's pretty relaxing just following along without having to think of which brush or colour to use tbh. It's actually been a while since I've done one of her videos, so I'll definitely be trying another video some time!

Thanks so much for reading!
