Art Attack! #96: A Night on Eco Hill 🌄

Hey Hive!

First of all, Happy New Year to everyone! Although everyone is saying it's 2022 too, I hope this new year brings good fortune, health and success for everyone! It's a new beginning and anything can happen so let's make the best of it!

Anyway, since it's been a while, we're back with Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!

So back when I first started digital art, I started by drawing some simple landscape pieces to get acquainted with this whole new medium and I recreated a painting from one of my favourite games of all time - Stardew Valley!

If you're unfamiliar, Stardew Valley is a very charming 2D pixel indie farming simulator game that was developed by a single talented guy; ConcernedApe! I love everything about Stardew Valley. The visuals are so adorable and well done, the art is beautiful, the gameplay is solid, and the music is phenomenal!

Anyway, in Stardew Valley there are actual paintings that you can put up in your house and they're some of my favourite furniture in the game!

So I thought it'd be cool to try to practise my digital art while recreating some of my favourite paintings! And I previously did Calico Falls:

And I also painted Jade Hills in watercolour:

Both of them turned out pretty skufd tbh, so I thought I'd try again, this time recreating the painting called A Night On Eco-Hill!

It's a pretty simple piece and one that I've been putting off doing for a long time finding the motivation to do it. So I was glad to finally sit down and get it done!

I actually wanted to draw Maru and my farmer stargazing on top of the hill but figured I'd ruin the simplicity of it so I left it out. I took what I learnt from drawing all my space related pieces lately and drew in the stars in the background, and also traced the Stardew Valley moon to give it a light source.

And it came out pretty well I think! The lighting effect is subtle but noticeable and makes sense with the moon. The other corner felt a little empty so I drew in the little UFO that rarely appears in the results screen sometimes and a nebula that it's coming out from/going into? I thought a pinkish-red one would give some nice contrast to the green hill. And it worked out pretty well! A simple piece, but one that I really like. Enjoy the timelapse:

Thanks so much for reading and again, happy 2022 yall!
