Althea Talk #003: Inner Beauty

Dear Steemians,

We all go through a daily regimen of waking up, showering, eating, working, and sleeping. We also tend to add in bits and pieces of making ourselves feel and look better with a good skincare routine. While with Althea, I started putting on all of these toners and essences and creams and suncare products. What I want to try while summer is approaching is to try out an inner beauty trial and drop everything else (except maybe sunscreen).

I have been reading up stuff from the internet, I am proposing this month-long course:

  • Water
  • Coffee
  • Fish
  • Lots of fruits and vegetables
  • Low carbs

As a huge steak eater, honestly, I think this will be a very hard diet to maintain, but let me share some of the cool tidbits I have learned about my future course.

Below, I will be summarizing articles (with bits of my opinion) on the specific parts of the diet.

Water
This one should be a no-brainer. With more than 50% of our body, consisting of water, it should make sense that we should be constantly replenishing our water levels. It makes a ton more sense to drink water to hydrate the skin than to apply a cream.

  1. Natural anti-aging product by "replenishing the tissue and increasing its elasticity"
  2. Warm-cold water ritual. Wash your face with warm water to help clean out the pores, then use cold water to tighten the pores, reduce inflammation, and lessen acne.

Coffee

  1. Full of antioxidants to help fight free radicals
  2. Caffeine in coffee used to "depuff" eye area
  3. Minimize the visibility of cellulite
  4. Calm inflamed skin
  5. Improve blood flow to stimulate the skin

Fish
Packed with omega–3 fats, which help "fortify skin cell membranes, protect against sun damage, and may also reduce the risk of certain forms of skin cancer. These healthy fats allow water and nutrients into the skin while keeping toxins out, and may also fight inflammation in the skin."

Lots of Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits and veggies are also packed with antioxidants (probably more than coffee) so that your body can fight off the free radicals for better-looking skin.

Low Carbs
The only issue I see with a low-carb diet is that you have to continually maintain a low-carb diet, which in practicality is really hard to do. I will just try to decrease my intake of carbs and increase my daily physical activity. Will monitor my progress with my Fitbit Alta.

For others who have any good advice, please let me know!

Have a good one!
Chris
