No worries – not a Beck’s which has just been introduced by the awesome @beers today. Our Beer of the day is called Astra and is one of the most common beers in the city especially in the city part called St. Paul where the famous redlight district is located.

Astra beer was promoted under the brand Bavaria until 1909 and then re-named to Astra. In January 1998 the city of Hamburg bought the brewery as it was under threat of closure and sold the brewery to Holsten at the end of the same year. After it has been sold to Holsten it is now part of the Carlsberg imperium.

The taste is harsh to me – the stats as below from the different types:

• Astra Urtyp (alc. 4,9% vol.)

• Astra Exclusiv (alc. 4,9% vol.)

• Astra Pilsener (alc. 4,9% vol.)

• Astra Rotlicht (alc. 6,0% vol.); Rotlicht is the German expression for redlight and means redlight-district

• Astra Original Hamburger Alsterwasser (alc. 2,5% vol.) (Shandy)

I prefer different Beer but to be complete I had to add also some Hamburg beer, sure other Steemians might post about other great ones I need to discover.   At least Hamburg is always worth a trip!
