We all know that the best way how to get a lot of upvotes is to make a nice and original content. However, if you are new on steemit you don't really get the exposure you would like to have so you go and pay for the upvotes via many upvote projects and bots that are on steemit such as buildawhale, discordia, treeplanter, bellyrub and so on to attract the people to your post. If you calculate the costs properly you can even end in profit by doing so.
The problem is that you have to pay for these services! There are no giveaways or contests that you could try to win and earn some upvotes for free. But did you know that there are other ways how you can get upvotes and you don't actually need to pay with SBD or STEEM at all?
Not many people know about the BitShares/OpenLedger decentralized exchange, but BitShares offers one great thing and that are user issued assets. There are many projects on steemit that have their own UIAs and they often offer upvotes if you transfer their tokens back to them.
You can also buy them, but most of the time you can get them for free in giveaways or some contests. Even if you don't really want to know anything about these projects and you are here just to know how to get (free) upvotes please bear with me.
I am talking about projects like HairShares, WhaleShares, LFN, BeyondBits and more. I hope you at least heard of them, because they offer really profitable upvotes! ;) What is also good about these tokens and projects is that the upvotes are getting stronger, because they are accumulating a lot of steem power.
This post is about a different ways how to get upvotes so I will not talk about the projects in general, but in what contests you can earn some and most importantly how to use them. :)
First we have WhaleShares and BeyondBits. I am going to put these two tokens together, because there are not that many differences between them and they both belong to @officialfuzzy.

How to buy them?

The idea is that you should always be on the "buy orders" side on the WhaleShares and BeyondBits markets. Buying 100 BeyondBits would then cost you 160 BTS, which is 22,7 USD with the current price. However, 100 BeyondBits transfered to the WhaleShares account would give you 46,64 USD on your post now.
How to use them?
You transfer these tokens to the "whaleshares" account. 1 token is worth 1% upvote. Do not forget that you have to put U before your post in the memo!
HairShares belongs to @nepd. The one way how you can get them is to donate hair for a good cause. You can also buy them from the exchange.

Nobody will sell you HairShares - you have to buy them from the "sell orders" side. It is still fine, because you still end with a little bit of profit. 10 HairShares is 100% upvote from the @nepd account. With current prices you make a profit of 0,6 USD or more per post if you use them correctly.
How to use them?
You transfer these tokens to the "nepd1" account. 1 token is worth 10% upvote. Because the upvotes are done manually it is only important to put your post in the memo. Adding U before your post in the memo is optional.
LFN belongs to @rawbinhutt. RawbinHutt is making a lot of contests and there are sometimes giveaways on the LFN discord too. This project is probably the most profitable, because 1 LFN token is worth 100% upvote right now!

Not many people know about LFN tokens and the market is very small and scarce right now. The best way how to get LFN coins is to participate in the contests. However, with the current price of BitShares even buying them from the sell orders side of the market could give you a small profit. What is also important to know is that the @rawbinhutt account will be stronger and stronger as the time goes on. He is powering up very nicely.
How to use them?
You transfer these tokens to the "rawbinhutt" account. 1 token is worth 100% upvote! This upvoting is also manual so you only have to put your post in the memo and adding U is optional.
